Tailgate problem - Land Rovers Only

I have recently purchased an 05 disco 3 which to date has been without fault. Today however I loaded some bins in the back and needed to apply a small amount of pressure to get the upper tailgate section to close as one of the bins was too far back. The tailgate closed OK but I am now unable to open it. The manual I have suggests that I press both buttons on the remote together for 3 seconds but this dosn't seem to achieve much apart from flashing indicators and the locking mechanism operating. When I press the handle of the tailgate it makes the right noises but it dosn't release. Any suggestions please ?

Sounds like the end of the cable has broken off, if this is the case you will need to order a new latch.

Thanks Partsguy. You got it spot on according to the dealer.
The only worry I have is that the dealer seemed to know what the problem was as if he has seen it a number of times !
