So I went for a drive with the wife in the LR3 .... its has been snowing all day we went into a left hand turn at 5 maybe 10 MPH and the LR3 did not want to turn ABS saved us from screwing up our Rover .... We have continental tires 255/55/19 and they suck what do you guys think would be a good all year tire.
I've got Michelin Diamaris 4x4s on my 2004 Disco II. I haven't driven a Pirelli other than a low profile P-zero, which were amazing on the porsche. either the michelin or the pirellis would be my only choices. unless of course you go with an offroad tire lol

thats a sweet setup for 19" rims. i love the look of the 19" six spokes on the LR3, i wish my dad's 2006 had them (he has the like 10 spoke 18" rims or however many spokes they have), i've got the equivalent 18" six spokes for the D2 on my ride. clean and simple look.
UPDATE
OK I picked up the Wintrack4Xtreme tires in Chicago and went through some the worst winter driving experiences in my life with absolutely no sliding. At first though, I headed out on the I80 West with the Conti tires which came with the car. Before I knew it, I was in a white out! White knuckling it past at least a hundred cars and tractor trailers wrecked on the side of the road and center medium, I held on tight as the wind threw me from the fast lane to the slow lane. I had no traction to speak of. Was not sure I was going to make it alive. Could not even see the exits available, the snow was coming down so thick.I finally pulled over for the night . Woke up to my LR3 with a good 8 inches of snow on it and -11* out ... So cold .... After warming up the ride for 20 min I jumped onto the 80 West to give it another try. As I was driving I was thinking how bad the roads are in this part of the country with all these huge holes in the ground , only realize later that the ground was frozen and what I had thought to be holes were breaks in the ice. Going less than 5 miles per hour, I barely missed a gas pump trying to pull in to fill up. On my way out of the station, I nearly hit the car in front of me at the light. I tried to stop giving my self over 20 feet to do so and the car just kept on moving. ....Finally found a place to switch the tires. On my way back home the Wintrac4Xetreme tires were flawless. I was doing the speed limit feeling very sure footed and in total control through the same scary stuff I had driven through a day earlier. Now, I was passing everything on the road from State Police to BMW X5's the tires held like velcro!..... I am very happy to know my family is safe and that we won't be having anymore near misses.

Get Goodyear Wrangler Silent armor tires the size that will fit the rim is 265/60R18. They are great on and off-road, They have good grabbing treds and are good fir ice. it should be known to all that Continental, Brigstone and Firestone tires are of bad quality.

Though I would agree with you on ALL firestone models, I had great wear, grip, and quality out of Bridgestone RE71's back in the 90's. And I've had more pirellis's than I can count, pzero's, pzerorosso's, scorpion a/t's, p4000's, p5000's, p44's. 10's of thousands of miles, under all driving conditions, and on half a dozen cars. 80-90% of the time, those pirelli's were great.

My old Bridgestone REVO's are probably one of the best set of tires I have ever owned and the person I sold mine to would agree. I had Bridgestones on my audi as well, great tire too. My buddy runs the Firestone Destination M/T's and those are fantastic tires. I am sure you have experiences to justify your saying that, but it might be too much of a generalization.
I just put a set of Scorpion Zeros on my LR3 about a year ago. 10,000 miles later I'm looking at having to replace them already. Yikes! Now...I think they did a bad alignment or something, because my fronts are completely worn on the inside, but even my rears are almost to the wear bars. I kind of expect that kind of wear on sports car tires, but not on an SUV. Maybe I'm being unrealistic, and I've fixed the alignment, but I will probably look elsewhere for the replacements...
FWIW, I have the 19" MT/R's and they are great! I wish I could find another set here in Canada. The add some much-needed masculinity to the LR3. But if you don't do any real off-roading you might not like the hum they make and the harsher ride due to the Durawalls. But if that is the case why not just get it over with and drive an Escalade or an X5.
