Unhappy Wheel Fell Off LR3

Has anyone had or heard of this problem:

I was backing out of a parking spot with my wheels turned all the way to the right. I was looking over my shoulder and didn't realize there was a small pole next to me. As I backed out and the front of the LR rolled to the left, the front driver side tire (only the rubber, not the wheel) hit the pole. I was backing out and going slowly, but nevertheless, the ENTIRE WHEEL ASSEMBLY popped out of the CV joint, the axle, and A-arms and completely disconnected from the vehicle, save a single bend control arm. The whole car fell onto the lower A-arm while the entire wheel assembly twisted painfully away from the car. Nothing else was part of the collision - the wheel was fine, the fender was fine, etc.
Since this was just the sort of thing you'd experience in the bush, while 4x4 over a rock or something, I thought it should be covered by warranty. So far LR has refused.
So much for heavy duty, quality 4x!
Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else??

Man. That's tough. You should be able to get them to cover that. Something doesn't sound right...

I've never heard of anything like that happening to any vehicle, much less a new one. Keep us posted on the progress. Do you have any pictures?

It seems like you would have had noise coming from the wheel area when driving on the road prior to this mess happening.

By the way, welcome to the forum. I like your handle "Grandpoobahh". I said that to my kid's the other day and they looked at me like I was wierd or something... My wife said I was showing my age. Seems they had never heard of the title of the head of the "Royal Order of the Water Buffalos" before.

As much as you might not like it, Rover has no resposibility to reair damage done by you to your truck. Call your insurance man and get it over with.

Crawl under and take a look, it isn't a Disco, it is the next best thing to a Ford Explorer, a soccer mom's car that will do some off roading. Not putting down Rover but that is the markets direction. Hang on to those old Discos.

I'm not. They're not built as tough as an RRC or D1. They may be capable, but not as strong or durable. Giving up the size and mass of individual componants is the cost of attempting to improve economy.

If it were a mechanical failure I could see LR covering it under warranty. You wacked it into a pole and ripped the wheel off. Not being a prick but why should they pay for your mistake? Stuff happens, learn from it right? When you get your truck back, hook a strap to the pole then to your truck... and rip that damn pole out of the ground!

how the F&%k did that happen, when i had my LR3 i took it off-road alot and put it through tons of abuse, plus had oversized tires and that never happened. But then again i never backed into a pole like that

I'm so glad I have a defender now, much better than the LR3

A soccer moms vehicle that will do some offroading eh Mike? Now I'm bringing the LR3 to Slaughterhouse tomorrow just to show you what the grocery getter is capable of.
Out of curiosity, how many of you shit talkers actually own or have REALLY wheeled an LR3? If my Classic wasn’t so built up the LR3 would kick it’s ass off road.
As for the “wheel just falling off” I’m w/ Sodirty…we’re missing something.

I don't think there is anything missing. Wheel vs "small" pole cemented into parking lot... someone's going to lose.

The part I think we're missing is "going slow"...
Wheel falling off seems like it would be more "I floored it, hit a pole and my wheel was knocked off".
