Ok I am really craving 33s on my disco right now. I have a 2in OME lift and am not afraid to cut to fit them as it is not my daily driver. The question I have has anybody run a 255/85 tire on a 2in lift? I have been told they will clear but I was hoping someone would know from experience? Oh and this will be my offroad set of tires on stock alloy wheels but I want radials and not bias ply because something that can be driven on the highway would be nice.

I dont run them I have 32"s but I know a few who do. From what I've seen they will clear just fine however you will really have to trim the panels. Also keep in mind that some companies tires will say 33 but be a little larger or smaller. Plus 33's will cause bad fuel economy
and more wear on the axles and diffs. However with 255/85/16's the risk may be a little lower because it is a narrow tire. The tires I would recommed is the BFG mud terrain or The Super swamper truxs the swampers will be less expensive and both are radials.

I run Simex Jungle Trekker 33.11.50's on stock ride height. I've trimmed the arches and fit flares and have no problem even under full articulation. In places I cut about 6" of outer wheel arch away though.
It's also a 3 door, which might have been better for clearance on the rear of the rear arch. I know someone with a 2" OME lift on a D1 and runs 235/85 Coopers. It's ok on the road and minor off road but get the rear flexing and it was bashing the out arch BIG time, it needed trimming and/or flares adding. As for tyres, well it will depend on what terrain you dirve on. BFG Mud Terrains are popular in the US and to be honest a fairly decent Mud Terrain but there are better tyres for less money. If you are on the rocks then I hear good things about Goodyear MTR's although they really suck in the mud. But again there are cheaper alternatives. ![]() ![]()

I ran 255/85 BFG MTs on my classic with a 2.5 inch lift and had to cut the body somewhat, around the rear door and front fender. Longer trailing/radius arms might fix this, but I would ask over at Dweb or search Dweb for info. Just did a 255/85 Disco search and pulled up some stuff. Gordo

Remember a lift and cranked trailing arms are all good as long as you are not flexing. A lift won't (or at least shouldn't if its a good lift) prevent the wheel stuffing itselfs as far in the wheel arch under articulation. So to aviod issues off road you need to check the clearance with each wheel fully articulated.

KevinNY, He's got a D1
Timmy, If you don't mind cutting, you should be ok. Your stock driveline will suffer as a result of the tire size though. I also (personal opinion) think the tire will look too big with a 2 inch lift. I have 3 inch RTE's and 1 inch spacers and it looks about balanced with my 255/85/16's. But it's your truck and you are the only one that has to like it. Who cares what anyone else thinks. Look at me, I've got friggin white stripes all over my truck. Good luck! |

I am not to much of a fan of a body lift but will consider it seriously since it is only an inch. I thought the only options were 2in. from rovertym and 2.5 from dap. I am also thinking of adding a 1in. spacer on the springs because My OME springs are probably closer to 1.5 inches of lift. Probably will get 255/85 maxxis bighorn mudders or 255/85 trxus mts but for the right price bfg mts which may very well happen since the mud terrain is being replaced this year.

I can confirm that they are at least a tad taller than 33" but I've not measured them accurately. Temporarily I've got a set of 235/85R16 Bronco 4x4 Dirt Devil remoulds (look a bit like a Interco TSL) on the Discovery, I measured these and they are bang on 32" in diameter but are dwarfed by the Simex's.
