Default BFG Tire Question

Okay, did my duty and read through the forums concerning tires and fitting. Unfortunately I didn't find what I'm looking for, so here I am.

According to the tire guide at the beginning of the wheel and tire section for Discovery II:

Quote:
32"

275/70/16: possible to fit without lift. minor rubbing.

265/75/16: possible to fit without lift. minor rubbing.

285/60/18: 32" tire for the 18" rim. costs much more than 16".
On the 18" rim at the bottom there is no mention of rubbing or lift needed ... is this information correct? I hope so because I got a killer deal on some 265/60/18 BFGs and I need to know if they fit!

Helpless in the south-

Dave

Well, the 285's are wider than the 275/70/16 and te 265/75/16. I have the 265/75/16 on my RRC, although I have a 2" lift and the plastic inner fender wells removed.

The 285/60/18 are probably for sure gonna rub, cause it is a bigger tire size than the rest listed there. If there is a lift on the truck, maybe just some minor rubbing during a turn or articulating over rocks and such. I know I rub with my 265/75/16 even with the lift, but on turns only.

Hope this helps!

Dave,
I tried the 285's and they rubbed so bad, I didn't get out of the tire store parting lot. I changed suspensions to a 3" lift and put on 265/75/16's because in doing some reasearch, I found that the 18" side walls are terrible when off the road in rocks, they tear much easier then 16" tires.
If you are not going off the road and you wanted to do a lot of cutting,A LOT, you might squeeze the 285's in, but I wouldn't recommend it.

265 ... not 285.

Well, in that case, yeah they should fit with minor rubbing. They are not as wide as the 285's, so I think you'll be good.

the 285/60/18 calculates to a 31.5 the 265 is a 30.5
