Default Disco II, 2003 HSE 7, Wheel ?'s & tire sizes?

I am sure these are the most often asked ?'s. I searched the threads but did not find the specific answers so here I am.

1) Finnally I think I can afford 16" wheels, My wife, father in law, & family cannot understand why in the '@#%^' I would take new Perelli tires off with 18" rims. Butthe important thing is my 12 yr old son understands and cannot wait.

I am looking at the plain Black 16x7 Steel wheels from Atlantic British.
Item: 3030A - 16x7" STEEL MATTE (BLACK) (SET OF 4) $379.95

Any thoughts, would 8" be better if so Where can I find them?

2) What size tire? In Colorado I ran Swampers on my Blazer, they did well, but I think I am going to go with BFG instead. (Actually my cousin owns a tire shop so I will get the brand he carries at cost, once I get the size figured out.)

FYI, We have added OME, Heavy duty springs & shocks ect. I think its now about 2" higher. We plan to remove both bumpers and get steel off road ones that will allow for clearance next year. So I am not apposeds to a little trimming in these areas if needed. (That will excite the family )

Again thx
Michael

Michael,
Glad to hear you are going to 16's, I wouls suggest you go to either tthe 245/75/16 or if loosing a little gas mileage doesn't bother you, go to 265/75/16's. Will you be doing much wheeling, if so, try for the BFG MT's, you will like them.

FYI if you shop around a bit more you can probably find a better price on those wheels. 99% sure they're the ProComp Series 87s that everyone carries, but no one admits they're ProComps.

I got mine from Trek in LA, but shipping costs would be a bit high for you. I read somewhere if you can get the part # you can order directly from ProComp.

I have 15x8" wheels. and I'm quite satisfied. it's really up to you if you go with 7" or 8" wide. obvoisly you can get a wider tire on a wider rim but I think the tire has to get pretty damn wide for it to make a difference. also they say the narower rim will be less likely to loose the bead.

and tell your son we had a lot of fun making them

Kevin
Thx for the direction.

I did not know, if the added inch would be of that much benefit.

On a disco 11 you can fit simex 33 inch (really 34 inch) JTs with only minor rubbing on full articulation. Do not need to cut any panels to fit them. Look at my posts under off-road section and you will many D11s running the simex tyres. But this on the assumption that you are planning to keep your current wheels for daya to day use and your new wheels are for off-road use. The Simexs also fit on the standard disco wheels that I believe are 7 inches wide.

DII stock wheels are 16x8. You can put a 16x7 wheel on; my logic is that then I would have a hard time running wider tires on 33"+ers.

Im sure its fine for whatever you want to use.....I want to eventually run 35s....eventually. Though, by then I may just get beadlock wheels....they arent illegal if you dont get caught Could always go with that staun inner-beadlock too.

by the time you can run 35s you will probably have a different bolt patern anyway.

Default will 1999 stock wheels fit a 2003

I have taken in all the wisdom ya'll have been so kind to offer and found 5 - 16" stock alloy 5 spoke wheels.

My search for Disco II wheels was not as easy as if I were seeking wheels for a Disco I. So I was glad to come across these. The seller measured from the center of one lug to the center of the next after skipping one. Both his and mine equaled 4 1/2 ".

I started to worry tonight after noticing that the wheels on eBay usually stated they fit 1999 - 2002. I am only hoping and guessing; but is that when the 18" wheels became popular?

So will the 1999, Disco II wheels will fit my 2003 HSE?

These are going to be for off road use. The current plan is to powder coat them and add 32" tires. We have already installed an OME heavy duty lift, but I read that 33's may be too much for the axles, +++.

Can anyone ease my conscience? If I can get these, I will have to post a few photos once they are on.

THX again. So many questions for what should be so simple.

Michael
