Seems like tire info on 18" rims is lacking, (probably since anyone in their right mind would go for 16" steelies), but here's my beloved '01 Disco II with 265/70r18 all-terrain tires. They are listed at 32.6" overall diameter. I haven't had a chance to actually measure them.
I have a 2" (kind of..) RTE lift. FYI...these tires won't fit without minor mods. I trimmed a bit off of the front air dam and turned the front wheel-well brackets around (see pics). Also some pics for beginners like me who need to flip the spare tire bracket. I used a hack saw and a pair of pliers to cut and break out the notch...so it isn't pretty. Also, the middle bolts won't line up when you flip the bracket, so I marked and drilled new holes. I didn't like the idea of only having four bolts, especially since the bracket is under greater stress. |

Looks good...I just traded for some 18's for my '00 disco...the tires on them are soon to be replaced with larger ones. Probably going with a 285/60 R18...Im not totally sure what sizes work best on these trucks. Im looking at the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I've had them on a 3/4 ton suburban and a lifted f-250 and they have one of the best rides of any tire I've had. Had them in the 33" variation one the Suburban and the 35" on the F-250...I think the 285/60R18s measure right at 32"...not totally sure. Also, the addition of an aftermarket bumper might help on the front clearance issues...haha

Thanks....I considered the 285/60s as well. I think they are (ever so slightly) shorter than the 265/75s and they (285s) are wider. FYI, I have a slight rub against the radius arms at/near full lock. The wider tires might be worse. But, since they are a bit shorter they might not. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.
Your odo/speedo will be off about 5% and you will have a somewhat noticeable reduction in torque vs. stock. That is, if your OE tires were about 29" tall. What size wheels/tires did you have? I wanted to get as much ground clearance as I could. The taller, skinnier tires do well in the mud around here. The terra grapplers are a good choice, I would have preferred to get them, but they were $200 more than these. I'm trying to save up for a bumper. Being broke sucks! |

Indeed, being broke does suck...haha I'm fighting with that now...I had 255/65/ R16's stock...about 29" tall...They dont currently make a terra grappler in the size you're running. I can get the 285s for around $160 each. I can get other brands in that size from $100 up...I just like the ride and look of the Grapplers as opposed to the other brands out there.
Is the speedo in this truck cable driven? Can it be adjusted to compensate for the tires? It's no huge deal...Disco's dont go that fast anyways. I can always opt for the navigation head unit that'll give me a speed if needed. I'll keep an eye on the radius arm thing. Thanks for the response, Greg |

That's one of the reasons I didn't get them. The next size down (255/70) was too small, and the next size up (275/70) seemed too big. With hindsight being 20/20, the 275s would probably have been acceptable.
I'm by no means an expert, but I'm fairly certain the speedo is computer operated with input from the wheel speed (abs) sensors. I don't know of any way to compensate electronically. Changing to the "right" gears would do it (and regain lost torque) but that's a big deal. I used a handheld gps that I checked to see how far off the speedo was. You might be able to borrow one from a buddy and just remember how far off you are. Just remember that it's a percentage -- 5 mph off at 50 mph would be 10 mph off at 100. |

I"ll try that if/when i do upgrade tires...looks as though i'll be running 255/55/18s for a while...found 3 sets at a local tire store for $25 a tire...so I guess i can drive quite a while on these tires for half the price of a new set...haha

My buddy is giving me his 225 75 16 BFGoodrich All terrain TA KO tires. Are they too skinny for my Disco II. I see you guys are running 265s, I have no mods on the suspension. What do u think>

Free tires FTW...To my understanding you can safely fit up to a 32" tire with no mods and slight rubbing...i dont know how true this is, since mine are 255/55 18's...the skinny tires might look alright, i prefer the wider ones IMO

A DII has an 8" wide rim. A 225 width tire will fit fine, but might look a little narrow. Will perform good for you though, especially considering the price.

Looks good! I just replaced the stock 255/55-18s for some new 265/60-18s and went with the Firestone Destination ATs. Actual dimensions are 31X10.5X18 and fit with no issues so far.
