Hey guy's, for those of you with taller trucks I am about to make the jump to 3" rte hd's(nearly 4"s) and their 2" body lift. I have allready trimed my fenders in the rear to clear my current 32"s my question will i be able to stuff these goodyear Mtr's in 35x12.50 with my next jump, I can get a killer deal on them ? if you have 5"s, weigh in thanks in advance

I wouldn't attempt it until you get HD rear axles and HD front axles & CVs ... probably also want stronger locking diffs and also going to need to regear.
What other kind of setup do you have? Upgraded driveshafts?

Thanks for the info and pics guys, Hank I'm going to scale the fuel door on you picture and take some measurements to see if its worth the extra effort, BTW your disco looks beasty, very nice, also what size tires were you running the the Before 35's picture?. Damn that white D1 is badass. I have considered strengthening the drivetrain but I'm not sure if i want to cough up the coin since I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a Unimog and start messing with it.
Currently I'm running rte2" Hd's rte dislocation cones rte extended lines and cheap procomp +2" shocks DII front shaft, fresh U joints in the rear 32"s If there is another Size that would go better on 5" that wouldn't require as much trimming and drivetrain revamp I'm open to suggestions, I just have the chance for a good deal on the mtrs but its not worth the excess headache in the long run. I mean with Axles and CV's and regear, lockers....i might as well use the money and run portals.... but I'd rather have a unimog

If you do a RTE 5" spring set up and some Bil 7100 shocks, you can clear the 35's. The 5" springs are closer to a 6" lift, and the 7100's valved ~400/100 will give you an additional inch. Above and beyond that, you'll need a lot of other new parts aswell.... It's not cheap, but it's all in what you want.
Before, I was running a 255/85. |

yeah thought about that but I'm not looking to go that rich with it, going cheap and focusing on the Mog. I'll drop back to set of 34's or something 35's don't mean dick to me and the deal wasn't that good

If you are looking into upgrading your axles, then look into the toyota conversion. You will have a lot more options both in terms of available lockers and available gearing. Also the front axle will be beefier. Comparitively, the price difference is negligible considering the massive increase in strength.
35" MT/Rs. Do you have mud where you live? We have red clay here and those MT/Rs get clogged up in a hurry, expecially on a heavier rig such as a landy. If it is going to be a dedicated trail rig, you can probably save money and buy super swampers since MT/Rs are so expensive (even with a deal). Swampers will own MT/Rs every day of the week off road. |

The full RTE 5" coil kit and arms with the Bilsteins. 35x12.50-15 MTR's
![]() ![]() Bushwacker flairs with about 4" of fender cut off ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Way too much cutting for my taste thats why I stuck with the 33's. ![]() As for the drivetrain so far, running the 35's through what I consider "real" wheeling he has eaten up the spider gears twice. So it seems the weakest part of the drivetrain is the carrier housing which in both instances deflected and popped the c-clip off and let the spider gears go wild. It is awaiting lockers and the GBR 4.75 gears right now, so from opinions on this board I imagine the next weak point will be the axles shearing just past the splines at the point of taper. All things to consider when going with 35's. It is a considerably pricier to make the leap to 35 vs 33. But boy does it look sweet and is damn near unstoppable...
