Default hub centric?

What is hubcentric? Is it ok to mount a wheel that is not hub centric on a DiscoI? and if you do what are the effects of doing so?

hubcentric means there is a "ring" on the back of the wheels that fits into a center circular sleeve on the hub. This provides more stability....less vibration...0 slack to rattle...etc.etc.

A non-hubcentric wheel can be fitted onto our vehicles with no harming effects.

i have some cheap lug centric wheels right now. with the lugs tightended down i dont think it make s a difference, but if i could i would like to eventually upgrade to some hub centrics with the "lip" on the inside of the rim which helps prevent the bead from coming loose.

Hub centric is new vocabulary for me too. Just to clarify what you're saying--hub centric and the inside bead lip are two separate wheel features, both of which you will find on a stock alloy L/R rim, right?

No, Hub centric does not have to be a two piece design. The stock land rover wheels, both alum and steel, are hub centric. The "center hole" on the wheel fits tightly on the hub. Thus, the wheel is centered on the hub, and not the lugs.

In theory, if you use "acorn" style lug nuts, the Lug centric wheel will be centered anyway. But, this is not the case, at least in most cases. The Trek wheels are a good example to use...The lug pattern on their wheels suck balls. Usually, the holes are not even round. If you were to take some white paint and paint the lug holes, then install the wheel, torque the lugs, and then remove; you would see the acorn style nut does not make 100% contact all the way around the lug hole. So, if the lug is only contacting a percentage of the "lug centric" design, how is the wheel totally centered? Even though the wheel is tight, it is still able to move and flex out of round. If your running a MT tire anyway, you may never notice this. But, if you were to run some street tires, there would be a noticeable difference.

Hub centric is better....but, lug centric will get you by.
