Default Larger Wheel and Tyres on D90

I know this question has probably been asked loads of times, but please bear with me! I have a 1989 D90 2.5TD. It currently wears 205/16 on standards white steel rims. I am thinking of buying slightly wider tyres and new rims. Not for any improved off road purposes, and I certainly don't want to over do it ,but just fancy slightly wider tyres. The steel rims I have at present are not in a great condition anyway and the tyres need replacing so though it a good time to do it. I would like to buy white '8 spoke' steel wheels shod with 235/70 R16 tyres. The question is will I notice any difference to cornering, noise, mpg, ride on and off road, clearances etc. I don't beleive they will effect my speedo/gearing as the overall circumference is near as damn it the same, or am I wrong. I have looked at 265 tyres but believe to get the same circumference and therefore not impact on gearing the profile would have to be very low, impacting on off road performance? Come on guys, should I buy them or not? Yes I would buy them mainly for cosmetic reasons, but if there are very good reasons not to then I wouldn't. I look forward to your comments. Thanx.

The 235's you are considering will fit without any problems as this size comes standard on most earlier Discos, however you might consider fitting either 245x75 (taller) or 255x70 (wider). These will fit your rig without modification.

You say that 235/70 R16 come as standard on Disco's, that is fine but I have a Defender 90. I don' think I am interested in taller tyres as I am not really keen on messing up gearing. Has anyone fitted 235/70 R16 to Defender 90, what difference did it make? Thanx.

What is the profile of your 205/16's. It's not possible without guessing if the 235x70 are taller than what you are already running. I'd be inclined to suggest they are the same or near enough to it. Let's know and we'll do the calculation.

Default 235's no problem

The 235's fit no problem (i used to have them on a 110) and the 265's also are no problem (thats what i've got now). No clearance issues or rubbing at all. I wasn't sure at 1st but once I got 235's they looked so much better but did regret getting 265's.
