Largest Tire on a D90

Anyone know what the largest tire size is that will fit on a stock D90?

I found a post on the d90source.com bullitin that says the largest tire that will fit on a stock D90 is 285/75 R16. That's about 1 inch taller and 1 inch wider than the stock 265/75 R16 tires. Anyone have any feedback on this? Am I safe putting this larger size on?

depends what you want to do with your truck!

A 285/75 will fit no problem but make sure you have the right rims! There are two stock steel rims, one thats 5.5 inches wide and one thats 6/7 inches wide! If you have the 5.5 inch rims then you should only fit up to a 7.50 or 235/85 maybe a 245/75. To go larger you need to upgrade your rims too, either with standard LR steels or aftermarket rims. Standard rims (7 inch) are found on 110s and you can also fit disco steel rims too (I have these on mine), after market rims are things like 8 spokes or modular rims. Once you have upgraded the rims then you can go up to 285/75 with no real problem. You will have to adjust your steering bump stops, but thats really easy.

If your looking for decent articulation of your axles then I would suggest you get a suspension lift! 2" lift would suffice!

Depends what you want to do! Would help if you told us what you intend to do with yer rig? rock crawling, mud plugging, street cruising (heaven forbid!!)...

I've got the aluminum 5 spoke style wheels, will they work for the 285/75 tires?

Do you mean alloy wheels? if you do then you will be able to fit the 285/75's on them!

If so then yes you can put a 285/75 on it!

So what tyres are you looking at getting then??

Well, I'm actually going to use this rover as my daily commuter vehicle and possibly do some light off-roading (since I already have a trail vehicle). With that said, the dealer I'm purchasing it from said he needs to put new tires on it before he can have me pick it up (so it will pass inspection). The first thing I asked is if he'd be willing to let me pick the tires, and thats when I asked to have the 285/75 mud tires. The selection of tire dealers he works with is'nt that great, so I'll be getting Dunlop Mud Rovers most likely. If I wanted some other brand, I'd have to pay the difference.
