Default Looking for new tires ....

Okay, well I got a flat tire on the highway yesterday and had to change it in the pouring rain...THAT SUCKED....but on to my question...

I'm looking to get some new tires, both for my 18" Land Rover Rims and for some offroading tires. So here are the questions:

1) Do you think you can buy an 18" tire to use to offroad?
2) Where is the best place to get a 16" Land Rover rim? Will they clear the brakes on a Disco II?
3) Also, I am currently running a Falken Ziex S/TZ 04 255/55R18, are these good?
4) What do you think about NITTO Terra Grapplers? Yokohama Geolander M/T+? Dunlop Radial Rover?
5) Do most of you have a road tire and then offroad tires?

Whether or not to get a 2nd set of 16" wheels really depends on how much off-roading you do & what degree of difficultly. There are a variety of reasons that a 16" wheel, for most Disco applications, is superior to an 18" wheel off-road. The most obvious is tire selection.

That being said, if your off-roading is mild & you get out only only once in awhile, it's probably not worth the expense of having a 2nd set of wheels/tires. You can find Nitto & BFG tires to fit your 18's.

If, however, you are getting more into four-wheeling, you could sell your 18's and just have a set of 16's with a good dual-purpose off-road tire, of which there are may choices in 16". The best place to buy 16's, or to sell 18's, would be EBay or the classified sections on this and other sites.

Should you decide to get 16's, or simply replace your 18's full-time, the questions then become: do you want stock alloy rims? stock back-spacing? steel? off-set? etc. While aesthetics play a role in these decisions, assuming money is an issue, I think it really all comes down to the application.

You can get 15's by ProComp in DII bolt pattern thru SG but I would recommend sticking with 16's due to the DII's weight. I think SG would give the same advice.
