Default LR3 20's with all terrains?

OK,

I am new to the LR family with my LR3 HSE and cannot stand the 19's that came with it. I understand this is more of an offroad family rather than a show car type of place.

With that in mind, I woudl like to have my cake and eat it too. A bit of bling, with some more aggressive/capable tires.

I see plenty of All Terrain tires in 20 inch, and I am looking at some 20 x 8.5 wheels. What is the size tire I can get away with? I am finding some of the Nitto terra grapplers and Toyo's in the 275/55R20 range.

I appreciate any help on this.

Thanks,
John

As you found out, Nitto/Toyo are one of the more popular ones out there for 20s. Cooper has their Zeon XSTs in a 275/55 and a 285/50 also. BFGs smallest size in a 20" is 285/55R-20. I'm not sure if that would fit though.

As long as you stay under 32" diameter you should be okay. You'll probably have some minor rubbing anything above 31.5", not a big deal.

I don't know about 20" options, sorry. I like Nittos, and hear Coopers Zeons are great too. It's going to be a bit rougher ride with less side wall I would imagine. Be sure they meet the LR3 load rating, that's probably most important.

Congrats on your new ride

Mike dont like no 20's.

ive seen some other trucks with nittos, and they are pretty good looking.
definitely not for off road use though.

you should put up some pics when you got them on man.

you will tear those rims to shreds and in fact kill the tires as well.

guys with Supercharged Sports with twentys routinely break rims and tires when they offroad wit them.

please post those pics when your done. throw some BFG's on there. I've always wanted to see that.Would it not off road much better with all terrains or what? I'm not sure why people dont do that more often. It would look way sick with steel wheels as well! Who cares about bling, its a Rover mate!
Especially with all that suspention travel and terain response.
Have fun with your new vehicle!

For sure AT's off-road better. Nitto's on 18" rims, and aired down, I get nice grip. But with a 20" rims you're loosing a lot of sidewall, nearly worthless off-road. Probably can't even air down.

Steel wheels do look sick and another pic with some BFGs for ya

But he said he wants an aggressive tread. Why would you want that if you aren't intending to off-road?

maybe so it looks good? im planning on gettin twentys with some aggresive treaded tires and puttins 33" tires on my stock rims. my truck is gonna look like a trail rig, so i want something that still has a little off road spirit in it and i dont want to roll on my 33" tires everyday and wear them out. i enjoy a little bling, so 20"ers with aggressive, not babyish tread on there is the way to go.

Wow, great to see all the replies. Sorry, also just had a new addition to the family and haven't had time to get back on the computer lately.

As for the LR, jake_ak_cent is right. No, I don't off road much at all yet, and when I do I will have a second set of 18's for that.

For much of my travels, which are limited to the "Urban Jungle", I want my LR3 to have a bit of bling, but also have a bit of an aggressive look too. I figured this would be a good look for what I am trying to accomplish.

I'm heading down to a local shop in a few days to scope out my wheel options, but have a few picked out already. As soon as I get them on I will post up some pics for sure.

Thanks again for all the replies.

20s on the disco rides like balls when on uneven terrain. i am sorting this out myself, but it seems like; ride 20s when you like, get 16s for wheeling. i went wheeling in the stock 18s, and even then i wasn't as comfortable as the 16s on my d1.

tires for 20s, especially larger tires are expensive, so i guess spend the money on good offroad tires, not tires that look like offroad tires but can't offroad.

unless you can afford both. or plan to afford both.

but definitely, if your going off roading a lot and dont have a ton of extra money get nice off road tires. but to me it sounds like he is going to be on the road most of the time, with some occasional wheeling.
