Exclamation Need advice on tires!!!

I'm looking at getting 33x13.5x16 for the disco 1. I was wondering if anyone has done that and what needed to be trimmed all that sorts of stuff. I do have a three inch lift.

My brother in law has that size TSL and it took a LOT of trimming. It is on a classic but I dont think that will matter. Just plan on getting some flares and a few saw saw blades, and hopefully you have a die grinder as this works the best to cut the aluminum. If your cheap like me you can get the aftermarket flares from JC whitney. That is a pretty wide tire BTW. A body lift might help matters as well, but I dont know how much. gordo

33's with a 2" on a DI will definately require trimming of the fenders and rear quarter panels,,also I would imagine the front air dam. If you are running a higher profile aftermarket front bumper, such as an ARB or TJM, you will likely have to cut a bit from the front bumper as well. You may be able to get away with no front bumper trimming if you are running SG or RTE lower profile bumpers. If you have rock sliders, you may need to trim a few inches off the front of the slider.

The real problem, however, is going to be the 13.5" width. I would argue that this is too wide on a DI. What wheels are you running? With stock wheels you will definately rub the front radius arms and I think this width may be impractical. Even with off-set wheels you may rub at full lock. The other thing to consider are the axles. With DI axles you run serious risk of twisting a shaft or busting up your spider gears with 33x1350's if you do any hard off-roading. There are axle solutions for DIs,,but they are expensive.

It wouldn't hurt to trim, just be sure whatever you trim is tucked and smooth so it doesn't stick out and possibly slice into your new rubber.

I was looking at my bro in laws TSLs today and even with the major trimming there are still some slices in the lugs. I would avoid a tire that wide if it were me. Oh yeah and he has offset rims. If your thinking swampers then maybe the LTB 34x10.50 instead? They fit pretty good with a body/spring lift and minimal to no trimming. gordo

I have 32ish"x11.5(I think?) interco trxus m/t's on my 95 D1. They run excellently with the OME 2.5" lift(it's the extra heavy-duty lift so it's more around 3" and extreamly stiff). I think the stiffness of the springs with the rancho 9000's in the rear at full stiffness makes it very hard for me to scrape with these tires. only time i get rubbing is with the front wheels fully articulated and turned all the way to one side or the other. Here's a pic of it that might give you a better image of my setup.

Personally I think the 13.5 width is way too much.

I run 33.11.50 tyres on 15x8 rims with a 1" wheel spacer. With a wider tyre you'd have to go at least 10" wide rim - you will end up with no steering lock (this is why I run spacers, I have also wound out the steering stops for better turning circle).

My Discovery is currently STOCK ride height but with flares, I trimmed 3-4"+ all round each wheel arch. On full flex the tyres still catch the rear of the front flares and the bracket for the front bumper (spoiler and corner flares removed).

At the back they don't rub at all EXCEPT on the inside of the wheel arch (directly above the tyre), a lift may help as would longer bump stops. It really isn't an issue though as it's only flat panel aluminium up there anyhow.

With a 13.5" width the wheels will stick out way too far from the wheel arches and will limit wheel travel as they will foul the edges of the arches/flares.

Personally I don't like body lifts so I'd stay clear.

With a 2" suspension lift and flares (trimmed arches) then 15x8 rims and 33.11.50R15's would always be my choice. If you want it more for looks than ability then 33.12.50R15 on 15x10 rims would work, but with less steering and articulation.

If you want more extreme try 35.10.50 tyres (they will tuck in nicely) but you'll need more extreme wheel arch flares and a 3" lift and probably a drop kit to make use of them (something like Scorpion Racing's Extreme kit, it allows 3" increased ride height and 3" better droop).
