Default New Tires for Disco Series II

Hello, I've seen this covered in a few other threads but I cannot find exactly what I am looking for. I have a 1999 Discovery Series II HSE, with Goodyear Wrangler Hps (255/55R18). These tires wear very badly and I am also looking to change the look of the truck. I figure I have two options:

1. Paint or powdercoat my stock rims and get new 255/55HR18 tires. I am currently looking at Pirelli Scorpion S/T and STRs. Does anyone have experience with these tires (about $160 on tire rack)? Any other recommondations?

2. Sell my rims, and pick up some smaller rims with bigger tires. I have no idea where to start with this. Any recommondations here?

By the way, it will be driven mostly on roads with a little offroading and lots of snow in the winter. I'd also like to get tires close to the same price range as the pirellis. Thanks for the help in advance!

The BFG AT/KO will work better for your needs- mostly onroad, lots of snow etc. I'd sell off the 18's and get some stock 16" wheels- lots of sets available cheap if you shop the various forums etc. Have them painted/coated however you like and slap on some BFG AT's in 245-75 (you never mentioned raising the truck, so 245 is the best size).

Thanks for the info. I think I will be going with some factory 16's. Does anyone know of any land rover wreckers in Ontario? I'll also be looking around for other various stock parts.

Discount Tire Direct. We have had great luck getting tires from them at great prices. They have four or five locations to pull product from.

We have been using lots of Nitto tires for sport cars and SUVs. Good performance at a good prices.

When I needed tires for my truck, I ended up just buying a set of 19" range rover wheels with almost new tires, maybe only 500 kms! Ebay is great for those items.
