Default Not so dumb question

returning member here....

It's always been a source of great irritation to me that I can't seem to find any information regarding recommended tyre pressures ( in PSI ) for Land Rover tyres.

I'm one of these wierdos who like to make sure my tyre pressures are right for the conditions so I'd be a very happy chappie if someone here can help.

I have a Series IIa SWB loaded with parabolics / gas shocks on 235/85 R 16's.

I have been told that 28 psi is right for the front, but this leaves me wondering how I'm gonna steer it when I'm older. Also, now and then I do get up a bit of speed, even nudging 70mph, and wonder if I need pump more air in for these heady velocities.

Thanks in advance

I can't help you on a official tire pressure I used to run my Series at 40-50 PSI most of the time for road driving that was on Micheline XZL 7.50R16's

I would just run them at any pressure you feel would be good for it. I mean it's a Series Rover what's it really matter? It's not like it will effect your high speed handling capability or your fuel economy. Especially considering you're running an improper tires size for the Series so any tire pressures that where specified by Rover would not really apply anyway.

I really wouldn't worry about it too much. For road use I generally run 28-32psi as a rule. In my 90 I liked to fiddle with the tyre pressures a bit to promote ;ess understeer when B road bashing.

You could run much higher pressures or lower just depends on the tyres you have, where you drive and how you like the different settings. If you can't notice any real difference just ensure they are balanced and safe.

Thanks for the swift replies. You see, I was using 205's before. Pushing the pressures up to 35 psi on the front made them wear pretty rapidly across the middle of the tread. My 235 / 85 R 16's are a tall tyre and at 28 psi look like they're a little flat really.

I've more or less retired the old bus from any serious off road duties as I'm spending a lot on it now, so most of my driving is on road.
