Default Refusal to mount non-factory tire combos

I was in BJ's Wholesale today (similar to Costco for those not in New England) checking out tire prices.

I asked about a set of BFG-AT's in 245-75-16 size, and was given the price of $185.00 each, mounted, including road-hazard-warranty, and lifetime rotation. For this month it's $40.00 off a set of 4, so ending up at $175.00 each.

Then the bad news... since that size is not in their book as being an official Land Rover sanctioned option, they don't want to do it because of liability issues.

Anyone found this kind of thing anywhere else? I've never heard of anything like this before. I wasn't ready to buy so didn't push it, but wonder if I'll actually be able to complete the deal.

Put the truck on jack stands. Remove all four tires. Have the old tires taken off at another rim shop. Take the rims alone to BJ's and have them install the tires. Find a truck that uses the size u want stock and tell them they are for that truck that uses them stock. Reinstall.

Yes, I had the same problem at Costco years ago.
Go find a Discount tire, they will take good care of you.

It happens all of the time, and it is happening more frequently. Many shops are jumping on the liability bandwagon. It was started in the late 90's by Wal-Mart, and Sam's club, (a W-M division). I was a TLE manager for Wally World, when it happened. Within a space of less than a year; they stopped doing tires that weren't listed on the door placards, stopped front end work, and stopped doing alignments. Now it's gotten to the point, that if you have a car, i.e. corvette that recommends a certain oil on an underhood sticker, that's all they will put in unless you sign a waiver.
Tires plus did my 265's on my DII three years ago. But last spring when I went to get 235's for a SIII; they had jumped on bard as well. It's getting ridiculous.

The closest one to him though would probably be in Michigan.

I just told the tire guy since he didn't have the 205 r16 Michelin XPC, a set of 35x12.5 MT/R would be the next logical size.

Worked like a charm.
