Alrighty you classic guys...need some advice on tire sizes now. I've done some reading and think I know which tires I've narrowed down too...
I have a '95 Classic LWB. PO did spring conversion, but I don't think it's lifted...looks to be in the "high" air position. Can I fit 285-75-16's? When offroad, I don't really do much that requires much articulation, but the more diffage I get, the better. Thanks fellas... Too Slow

Best tire size I have seen on a moderately lifted classic is the LTB in 34/1050 --- aka "the pizza cutter". By "best" I mean seemingly most effective. They measure more like 33 (at best) and rock in mud, dirt, gravel etc. Only drawback is if you spend most of your time on the rocks. They tend to give up some lateral traction. But I've been very impressed w/ their performance on a buddy's Classic. They are really not that large, do not rub, and again - offer sick traction. They are bias-ply, so if you drive long distances they may not be for you.

I have a 2" lift on a 1995 RRC and am running 265-75-R16's (BFG AT KO's). With the lift, I have only had rubbing in an artificial situation when I was trying to make it rub but articulating in a way that I would normally never put my truck in.
In very "real" situations off-roading I have not had any rubbing. Without any lift at all, you really shouldn't be going any bigger than 245-75-R16 I wouldn't think or you will get some rubbing which could get quite nasty. I will be getting a 2" body lift in the next 6 months for a little extra room for increased articulation in extreme cases and to get room in case I want to size up... |
