Default Simes Extreme Trekker clones (remoulds)

I drove past a local tire place last night and noticed they had what appeared to be a Simex Extreme Trekker on display... See the Simex here:

Well it was raining and I didn't have my camera so I went back today to check it out- apparently it is a Moldex remould:
www.technopneu.com/_a-visionneuse.asp?pneu=16

Size was 32-10.50X16, the quality of the remould was very good, much better than those I have seen in the past. The only reason I knew they were a remould is because they said so in french on the side, they were that well done.

Anyway the local shop has them for $129 mounted-it is known to be a pricey shop so these might be available elsewhere for less. I know there has been a lot of interest in Simex tires in US LR circles- so perhaps these will offer a viable alternative for users in North America. Anyway now you know they exist- if you are interested hunt them down.

Dont expect them to perform the same as Simex. Similar remoulds are around the world and even though the may look similar, they do not perform as well.

For those of us in the States... we have no choice but to go with the remoulds.

Last time I saw some Simex tires for sale here they were $300 each I think- That makes XCLs look cheap. For that $ you may as well look at US Intercos or something. For people who want the Simex type tread pattern these Remoulds are DOT spec and apparently available here in North America at ~$130 or less. I'll probably go with a set of these for my RR, I was going to get LTBs but these are available locally, without shipping etc...

I don't know-I've seen it done plenty of times @ 8-10 psi with remolds with no issues. Today's bead to bead remolds have come a long ways they aren't the same as the old re-treads or re-caps. Plus it isn't like they use Elmer's glue you know...

I'll probably try out a set of these this spring. I'll report back then, but for now I just thought someone might want to know they were out there and available. If you don't trust them don't buy them.
