Default Spare Tire relocator

http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/8282.cfm

is this the best price out there to mount the spare tire if you have put larger than stock tires on your D2? Has anyone made anything comparable but for less?

Thanks,

Andy

Best priced thing is to just invert your current spare tire carrier.. it'll run a 32" or 33" tire without a problem.

Haven't heard of much complaints.. its generally when people load up the back with a hi-lift or jerry cans it'll start weakening the hinges.. but hell, I think as long as you keep them well lubed you should be fine..

I've had my spare tire bracket flipped for over 2 years without an issue. And so does the dozens of people I go wheeling with.

I inverted my factory carrier 3 years ago and have had no problems with the change.

okay I am just now getting around to doing this, so of the original 6 screws, only 4 will be used this time as all the holes don't line up? can someone clarify this?

thanks,

andy

Drill new holes and use all 6.

I didn't add another 2 holes..i'm using only 4 of them. haven't got any problem so far.

but if you have the tools, drill another 2 and use all 6 bolts.

I think for D1, the tire carrier accomodates 32" with no need to invert.

Greetings All - new to this forum but not to Land Rovers - GREAT site by the way!

Here are pics of my stock tire carrier in it's factory position with a 235/85/16 tire (31.7" tall) and a tire cover. I used four washers between the spacer bar and the carrier at the very bottom and two in the middle. This gave a very slight angle and allows me to shut the door - tire cover and all - with no problem. IF the tire was 31.9 - I would have a problem, however...

D1 carrier will handle a 32" OD fine, close, but fine. Speaking from experience here.
