There are a lot of really good AT tires out there. To name a few:
Michelin LTX AT2
BFG TA KO
Where do you live and what is the year, make and model of your Land Rover? Also what size wheels do you have now?

i live in lenoir NC near boone, its a 2004 land rover disco, and 255/55-18 i was thinking about the super swampers M16 but i really have no clue what to buy? thanks
The only SSM16 they offer close to that size is a 285/65R18 which is a 33x12R18. Question is do you have enough room for a 33"x12" tire considering your looking at a 4" smaller tire in 255/55R18 at 29"x10"? The basic tire info says you can fit a 285/60R18 with minor rubbing, so you may be able to fit it but that is a stretch.
If your going to stick strictly with 255/55R18 your looking at 3 good All Terrain tire choices. Your doing mostly highway driving with a smaller amount of off-road driving so an A/T will be your best bet.
General Grabber A/T2 - $172.99
Nitto Tera Grappler - $179.99
Toyo Open Country A/T - $191.99
They are all in the same price range so its not like your looking at saving/spending a lot of money going with one tire over another.
I would look at the General Grabber A/T2 and the Nitto Tera Grapplers before going to the Toyo Open Countrys. The General Grabbers are along the performance lines of the BFGoodrich A/T, and the Nitto Tera Grapplers are right up there too.
If your looking to move up from 29"x10" to 31.5"x11" (essentially a small 32") you could go with a 285/60R18 and have the same options as the 255/55R18s (GB AT2s, Nittos, and Toyos).
Lastly if your looking to go 31.5"x10.5" (again a small 32") you could go with the BFGoodrich A/T KO in 265/65R18. But that is a big price jump into the $220 range.
Even if you were wanting to go Mud Terrain as far as tires go, your looking at the 33" plus size range. So before you would be able to move up into that category you would have to be able to fit the larger tires on the truck. But when you do go up to 33" you open up a lot more options.
I agree with Draider, the Nitto Terra Grappler is a great tire. Let me ask you, how many miles are you driving per year? Will you be running on these tires year round? What made you consider the M16? Here's a link with more detailed information on the Terra Grappler.

i would buy anything but michelin ltx m/s there are great on road but suck off road and wet roads the m/s means stay out of both plus they sling lots of rocks
I think DT means the LTX A/T-2. That's Michelin's all terrain tire.
What kind of offroad are we generally talking about? Mostly Mud? Rocks?
Good catch! Edit made!
