Default which tires do you like?

I an running 235 85/16 BFG AT/KO tires right now...I do consider these my road and some off road set..... I am looking at some 33" MT/R's for my off-road set...... what are pros/cons of each type of tire?

hmm...not sure about pros and cons.

Im running 265/75-16 BFG M/T's. I read tons of forum posts and it seemed as though they are good all around. Im sure with every tire you get people who like it and others who hate it....

check dweb too....there is a lot of info on this stuff.

From my understanding the BFG's are a great all around..... I have heard the MT/R are great off road but wear quickly..... I would like to have the softer tire on the harder trails... that way the tread will form around the rock and pull my rover up the obstacle

do MT/R's really use a softer rubber? Ive never heard they wear anymore then the BFG, but I have heard they are great on the rocks but dont clean out very well when it comes to mud.

They are a softer rubber...well from my understanding... I need something great on rocks...mud is not as big of a concern

I run 265 BFG MT's, they are good on and off the road, fairly hard to load up and last easily as long as their AT's do. Some people are afraid that the MT's will be too noisey and they really aren't.
There is a new BFG MT tread design being road test right now, saw a set and if you can wait, they would really be the way to go.

All that you mentioned are great tires,,,the BFG ATs, MTs, and the GY MT/Rs. Can't go wrong with any of 'em on CO terrain. Hell, I run ATs thru some of the toughest trails in the state.

That being said, seems that out west the MT/R is recognized as the superior radial for rocks. The majority of the Solihull guys run MT/Rs. I haven't seen one puncture yet despite plenty of abuse. Most will agree that the MT/R is weak in mud & slides on wet rocks...but how often do we see wet rocks, let alone mud?

If you're keeping the ATs as your road tires and buying a 2nd set for off-road, I would go with the MT/Rs. But that's just my .02 ,, I'm sure you wouldn't have any complaints with the BFG MTs either.

As far as other tires, I do know that Larry (big RRC Larry) punctured numerous TrXus sidewalls before finally trading them in for MT/Rs. While they seem a great all-around tire & clearly many people run them on wheeling rigs, they may not be your #1 choice radial for rock crawling (but would doubtless perform better in mud and snow). Tires are always a trade-off,,,and it's easy to 2nd guess your decision because everyone has a different opinion. Bottom line is,,,get the one you want and never look back. The differences (as far as the major brands of off-road radials) are probably far more minute than most would have you believe.

If you are buying a 2nd set for wheeling only you may want to consider some bias-plies,,,I know you've run these before & didn't like their on-road handling,,but for an off-road only tire, who cares? Granted you'll be driving to the trail,,,but you'll get some mad performances out of a set of TSLs or LTBs. The 33" LTB is super cheap too,,,, like under $120 ,,,

My MT/R's are sweet, but they wore out quicker than my BFG's did.

I have http://www.high-tec-retreading.com/sizes.html OTR MUD with Spacer in a 265/75/16 and so far they are great. I haven't had BFG MT's to compare them to but. They aren't much noisier on the street and drive wonderfully when balanced with Counteract Thanks to Red Rhino. Offroad to are great as well probably not as good as BFG MT's but I mean you can't beat $340.00 shipped for 4 tires to your door!! And they are made From 10 ply Michelin LTX Carcases so they are quality stuff. I have had them for About 4k miles thus far and are wearing very well so far and have actually gotten a little quieter. I don't know that I'll Ever drop the coin for BFG's when I'm fine with these. only thing that has stopped me so far is this:
besides that Hole Of NO Return I've had no problems, and as you can see the hole didn't look like a hole at all if you look in front of the truck it seems acouple inches of water and some leaves WRONG I hit it fast (to make a huge splash) and got way into it and Way stuck. The truck in on the tires above with 2" rovertym HD spring so closer to 3"

I've gotton over 50,000 miles out of my BFG AT's on my RRC. After sitting for a while both fronts went flat but I think that was a problem with the installation not the tire. I have never had a flat with them during normal or extreme use and even driving through sharp basalt here in the northeast I have only had a few very tiny sidewall cuts, not even through the outer layer. I'm running smaller-than-stock 205/85/16 michelins from a RRC on my disco and they are kinda tiny but they were free and had 0 miles on them. When I ran the michelins on my rrc they sucked in just about every off road situation. I've found them to be awesome snow tires though. I'm thinking about a set of 265 BFG mud terrains when I put the 2" lift in this spring. Does anyone have any experience with Michelin XZL's?
