What is load range for tires? - Land Rovers Only

I see "load range" for tires.

I have a 99 DII and want to go with 265 75 16 tires. What load range should I get, is it relative to the weight of the vehical or the type load you carry??. I will have a 2" lift MD springs and sometimes carrry a load of camping gear. a dog and 2 kids.

You want one suitable for the expected gross weight, which is your vehicle plus payload.
The higher the load range, D, E, the harsher the ride however. So it's a trade off. On my Disco I alternate between D and E (harsh ride when empty), depending which set of wheels I have on it.
Don't go lower than load range C on a disco.

Most people running 265's will run a "D" rated tire at 40 pounds of air.

Here's a link that may help. When purchasing tires you want to purchase a tire that has an = or greater load index to the vehicles original tires . Stock 16" 99 DII are 105 and stock 18" are 108.

For light truck (LT) tires, which is what you want to use on a Land Rover, I'd ignore the load index and go with load range. The load index is the weight capacity at a tire's speed rating. Load range is a weight capacity at a given inflation pressure. It also replaces and roughly corresponds to the old ply rating system which will give an indication of the stiffness and toughness of a tire.
