Question Wheel Bearing Grease

Didn't know which board to post this in but since it applies to a generic part, and has to do with wheels...I figured this might be the place.

What is the name or brand of the red wheel bearing grease that comes in a yellow container???

Or better yet...

What grease provides the best lubrication and protection?

Thanks Kev. Im currently using A valvoline one now and I feel as if its too thick. Its difficult to pack the bearings with one of those push-down bearing packers and things feel tights when I reassemble everything.

I had used one on the front bearings over at a fellow enthusiast's house that was red and came in a yellow container, but if my life depended on this grease and my photographic memory, I'd be dead..haha

Usually the better greases are the synthetic, like Mobil 1 and I think if yiu can find any of the synthetic marine grease, they may be even better.

Have always used the Mobil1 synthetic on wheel bearings. IMO it shouldn't really matter if your hubs are pulled periodically and bearings inspected/repacked, although I do still use the Mobil1. Peace of mind maybe...dunno.

I've had good luck with Castrol synthetic over the years.

Red synthetic grease in a yellow container. I was just in Pepboys and didn't see anything remotely close to that.

I use castrol pyroplex blue. It's forumulated specifically for use in wet/muddy/harsh environments.

Shortly here I'm going to give their Pyroplex Protection ES (fully synthetic) grease a try. Same hydro-activation (resulting in excellent wet adhesion) as the Pyroplex Blue.
I'm going to do my left side bearings with it and my right side with the Pyroplex Blue and see how they compare.

Hey Tom,

Thanks for bringing this thread up again! Good info and keep us posted on your findings.

I did also find that the Mobil grease is EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the ES locally except in full case quantities. I don't want to buy that much ($205 worth) just to try.

Yeah, I have...lot's of articles/press releases about it, but I guess it's new enough that no online places are carrying it yet. I'm still trying...
