Calling everyone from Colorado
B/C of personal reasons, I have decided to no longer become a chiropractor. Elijah, my fiancé, and I were talking to Aaron (FunRover) over AIM and as a joke looked at homes in Colorado. Not only did Elijah and I find our dream home… we found 8+ that are in our price range and are our dream home. To give you an idea, our dream home here in WA is over 4 million. In Colorado we get MORE land and out buildings (ie shop and stable) for only 199,999. I guess my question is, what is life like in CO. Elijah and I both want clubs for LR/RR and we love the outdoors. We’re both avid campers/hikers/trail riders. We are looking live in the Colorado Springs area, or within an hour of CO Springs. Elijah’s a finish carpenter, but knows the construction trade very well. He can do sheetrock, decking, remodel, new construction, plumbing, electrical, basically anything. We’re looking to start a family there within about four years, so I would be working in banking or something like that. Do you think we’d like it there? Thanks SO much for everyone’s opinion.

Jungle.
I havve tried leaving Colorado a few times. Each time I come running back. This place is paradise IMO. More sunny days per year than san diego. Mountains. Fishing. Microbreweries. I lived in the springs from 96-01 and PIkes Peak and the Garden of the Gods is unbeatable. Rampart Range really has a lot to offer the rover. I relocated to Denver, moved to Santa Barbara, came back to Denver, moved to Sacramento, came back to Denver, moved to Costa Rica for a year, came back to Denver, and then moved to Pittsburgh and came BACk to denver. You wont regret the move but I think you should consider Parker, CO if thats in your price range. Right in between Denver and the springs, great people, beautiful area, etc. Colorado Springs is a pretty slow place and its nice to be a stones throw from Denver, As far as work, this place is exploding so there is certainly no lack of jobs in construction. So check out Parker, Monument, and Castle Rock. GREAT places. =) See you soon! |

As a 12 yr Colorado resident now back on the east coast, I can tell you that you will love Colorado. I miss it.
I like living in VA but Colorado is just a better place to live: fewer people, less crime, more open land, less hassle by gov't & police, and better weather. Drawbacks are fewer boating & fishing opportunities and no beach (if you care about that). Plus, it's a four wheeler's paradise with more trails than you could hit in any one season. Have fun ! |

When I went to CO back in 02', I loved everything about it. Not one thing was bad.
![]() I had the idea then to actually move out there when I get a career going. Still thinking about it still. CO is a great place. You guys have it all.

JUNGLERR
I just moved from Colorado Back to PA. Unfortunately, In addition to other challenges I was diagnosed with restrictive Lung disease, (My lungs are getting smaller, and losing their elasticity). Since my wife has always wanted to move back to be near her parents I lost the vote and here we are. Anyway, you should love Colorado. I have lived in CO, TX, IL, OH, MI, PA +++ and visited nearly every area of the country. Colorado is best. Colorado Springs (South of Denver) is growing, jobs are plentiful and they pay. Property is starting to climb as many from CA are selling spending only a portion of their home sale for a better property. Overall it is more conservative, but getting more liberal as it grows. The weather is awesome. Let me know if I can be more specific. Good luck Michael |

Everyone is giving you Pros, so I will give you a couple of cons.
High altitude – If you have a breathing problem (can’t get in enough air) it will be worse there. My father in law will not visit us since he is on Oxygen, in Kansas... In addition, my wife has low blood pressure because of meds she is on. This in turn gives her a low body temperature – we will go somewhere where it is mild temp and she will be freezing. Last camping trip, she hardly left the camper. You do get use to the high altitude for the most part, but it takes a while. After coming back from Iraq with a virus, I went to a 4x4 club dinner way up at Cripple Creek. I was driving because of the snow, and I passed out because of lack of Oxygen. Sure I was sick, but just an example. Luckily, somehow my last motion was to apply the brakes and my wife was able to reach over and grab the wheel. I am currently in Turkey, and it is surprising how well I am running here versus while I was in Colorado. Water restrictions/lack of rain – Not a huge thing, but it does suck to go camping and not be able to have a campfire. They are big on checking too. Before I left, we went on a camping trip. We had rangers stopping at the campsite constantly to ensure we were in compliance. My wife was saying there was a ban on fireworks this 4th because of the high fire danger. However she has said that lately, it has been raining a lot, very not typical. Since you are living in Seattle, you are use to lots of moisture and lots of green. While Colorado Springs is not the driest place I’ve been, it is pretty dry just the same. I live in Widefield, which doesn’t restrict water usage; my typical water bill in the summer is over 100 a month. Ok, gave you two cons. If you want my opinion, I like Colorado Springs. We bought a house there and when I retire next year, I will be joining my family there again. Good job market, decent communities, and once you learn the roads to use, it isn’t really congested. One thing to keep in mind though if you buy north of CS and work on the south side. I25 is very congested during the peak hours. |
