I live NW of Canon City in the hills. Going home is 2 miles of 4x4 road, so I off road every day! I work up on Cheyenne Mtn. quite a bit, so I frequent the Springs (and just about everywhere else).
This is me last winter in the "level" spot where there was less snow... |

Let me try this again! (It wouldn't let me post a minute ago)
The tires in this picture are Big-O mudders, 245/74's I believe. They were a little wide so they rub on the wheel wells at full articulation, even with the suspension lift... have to be careful with chains. I can do almost my whole driveway with out chains, except for one spot after my gate which is rather steep. I tried to make it last weekend with out chains in a foot of new snow, but I caught the rut in the rear, lost my mo', and slid down sideways into the gate pole. Doh! Right now I run on Yokohama A/T geolanders, which I chose for their price (I drive a hell of a lot, so I go through a set yearly) and they are narrow so they don't rub in the rear. They are 245/75's also...go figure. If you really spend a lot of time off road, narrow tires are the way to go, as they dig through the loose stuff and grab the firm stuff with less slippin' and sliding. Look at what the military runs! This is a pic of my 1952 GMC 6x6, I will have to dig up some more pictures... I carry a lot of weight everywhere I go, so that helps in the loose stuff too. These pictures of my rover are fresh from today! |
