2013 Range Rover Priced at $83,500

After the debut earlier this week of the 2013 Range Rover, it has now been revealed that at the base trim level the luxury SUV will cost $83,500, representing a $4,000 price increase over the previous model.

Improvements were made in many ways on the new model, including a 700-lb weight loss made possible by an aluminum monocoque body and by implementing a host of aluminum suspension components. The monocoque structure is the first of its kind in the SUV market, and also helps to increase the structural rigidity of the vehicle overall.

Despite the weight loss, there has been an increase in rear seat legroom by 4.7 inches on the standard model. A long wheelbase version will also be aviailable some time over the coming year.

The prices that have been released are for the base trim, and the top-trim Autobiography model. The Range Rover will start at $83,500, while the autobiography edition will sell for $126,665. A sky-high $170,000 will get you the Autobiography Ultimate Edition, which is part of a play by Range Rover to compete with other luxury car makers such as Maserati in the ultra high-end SUV market.

For power, the Range Rover keeps its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine that makes 375 hp, while a supercharged version of the same engine will be offered with 510 hp. A new ZF eight-speed transmission is the engine’s running mate, replacing the old six-speed gearbox. There will also be a diesel hybrid version, although it will not be offered in North America for the foreseeable future.

The price of this Range Rover SUV seems to be well worth with some redesign and upgrades made with its rover automotive parts like its engine and some technological upgrades compared to the 2012 model. So would I pay $83,500 for a new 2013 Land Rover Range Rover? I would probably say yes!
