Default 04 Disco buying advise

Hi,
Great to find this forum. I am looking at a Disco 04 S , 45 000 miles. Asking price is $11 990 but probably negotiable. I compared this one to an 03 / 66 000 / $9900 at the same place. The 03 had small leaks on the engine and transmission so I will pass on that one.
So, now that I am seriously considering the 04. 45 000 miles seems low. It looks awesome cosmetically and the trans / engine are clean underneath. What should I check next ? Do you know any known problems with this year? Any particular service that is supposed to be done at specific millage? Recalls?

I should mention I will be buying this car only for short trips as I work / live within one mile but still expect to put 300 / 400 miles monthly. No off-roading at all. Warranty covering the engine, transmission and water pump is included in the price. Is this a good deal?
Thanks in advance for your help!

get the vin and check to see if it is in the range for an engine failure. wouldn't want that now would we.

Hi,
I have the Vin. So the 04s also have a serious engine problem ? How do I check that?
The engine is supposed to be covered by the dealer's warranty until 100 000 miles or 5 years. The truck has 45 000 now. Sounds too good to be true.
Thanks,

the 03's and a couple 04's if any have the engine problem so you should be in the clear. i think you can take the vin into LR and have them check to see if it is in the failure range (which it shouldnt be)

also you might want to take a look at this

Car maintenance, car safety reports at Edmunds
