Default Adirondacks, NY...new to Forum, not Rovers..

I thought I'd check out the discussions here, as this fall I picked up a used '07 LR3...to compliment my '68 SIIa. So far i have only good things to say about the LR3, thought it is quite a different vehicle coming from the '68. Exceptionally capable, though whomever decided on fitting Wrangler HP's as stock should have been fired. They are the same tires as come stock on my wife's car...a Honda Element....

Enough rambling. If you're in the area, and want to go off-roading, or need to be pointed in the direction of some interesting trails, let me know. I only know of a few, but they are legal, which is nice.

Welcome aboard. Nice to have another 68 owner around. Mine's down to a bare frame, getting all new cross-members and frame hangers welded on, but it's growing weekly.

The 'dacks is a big place, what town are you in? I know a few good trails in the Southern Mtns. and more grennlane type stuff in the NW area of the park or just outside of it.

Welcome to the Forum! I'm an aspiring Series IIa owner so it's nice to have another fellow enthusiast here to ask questions to!

Once again, Welcome!

Thank you for the warm welcome!

I actually live in Queensbury, NY, just outside the park boundary, but grew up in Johnsburg, and spend most of my time up there when I'm not working (it's only 40 min away).

I used to go up Prospect a bit (the old carriage road), though I haven't in the past few years, as I've spent more time working on the property in Johnsburg...winching trees out of the woods with Elliot (the SIIa) until I got an old tractor, and now shuttling parts / fuel to wherever I'm working back in the woods. For the past 6 years I've gone to Maine for a week, which has been a lot of fun as well...things are a bit more relaxed up there than in the park here with regards to vehicle access.

Funny story about my '68 - it's titled as a '67, and was always thought of as such by myself and the previous owner (original owner was a physician on the coast of southern ME who used to for house calls). For this past year I decided as a 40th birthday "present" to contact the Heritage center and get a build sheet and any other info they had. Was nice to see that it has in fact always been red (though different shades), but I was surprised to learn it was a '68! Good years, both of them

I'd be interested in hearing about places in the SW area of the park to explore, too...I haven't gotten over that way much.

Happy New Year!

My father in law lives in Queensbury. I was just up there Sunday selling my Disco to a guy from VT. Prospect Mt. (Big Hollow Rd.) is still open and has eroded out a good bit in the last few years. Don't go past the intersection where a trail goes right, that is private and a ranger has been up there enforcing it last summer.

Big Hollow up Prospect is a "non maintained state highway", as such ATV's and snowmobiles aren't supposed to be there...and ATV's at least do most of the damage there.

The road to which you refer (that goes over to Vielle Pond Road from Big Hollow Road) has always been on private land...the change in ownership within the past few years has changed access to it (as in it's gated and patrolled, as they new owners DO NOT want anyone in there).

Sounds like I'll be checking it out in the IIa before I take the LR3 up there. I've always found it amusing that in almost every one of the LR expeditions to showcase a new model the support vehicle the "locals" drive is a II / IIa / III...but I can also understand why.
