New owner of a used RR; '99 4.0SE had extremely little knowledge of Land Rover before my search for a replacement for my aging pick-up. I was amazed to see that I could buy much more quality with Land Rover than any of the other SUVs out there, like 4runners and jeeps. I'm not a master mechanic, but know my way around most car repairs and not afraid of mechanical repairs. Electrical issues on the other hand...... not too good at diagnosing.
Daphnie, that's the RR's name, seems to be in very fine shape mechanically. I've only noticed a small oil leak from around the back of the valve cover; so I'm figuring a cracked gasket. Interior looks fabulous! Previous owners took excellent care of her.
Presently I live in the Panama City, Fl. area, but will be moving to Oregon asap. There are no LL dealers conveniently near by, and I'm having a bit of no luck finding a service/repair shop experienced with Land Rovers.
Based on the numerous posts on this, and other Land Rover web sites, I figure this adventure will be either the best car I've ever owned, or the worst car I ever loved.
Welcome to the family.
It will be like a really bad highschool relationship. Drama - issues - love - hate. You may even break up a few times, but in the end it will be something you will remember forever.
We can help you find LR help in Oregon, no worries
Like you, I am awaiting this new adventure. I too am mechanically good with cars, but with this one I purchased a 5 year extended warranty.
This is the wife's car, so if it makes a funny sound, or stops running, she can just call the 800 number and it becomes someone else's problem.
This may not be an option for you with a '99-- or a least a practical one.
I would like to think that most of the bugs were worked out of yours by the previous owner.
Ken
HA! Bugs worked out I like that. I got it from the original owner and have had it for @ 6 years. 4 years maintenance free ,2 years of H**L. It will run another ten years when I'm done. Looks perfect on the inside!
