Greetings,
1996 D1 162k+ miles (from 32k when I got it) 1999 D1 109k miles (from 51k when I got it) Found this site searching for info on engine sludge. Both of mine have had to have the pans dropped and screen/pickup cleaned a year ago; the '99 needed it again this week. Symptom is oil pressure light, engine noise especially valve ticking during cold idle. Lots of electrical issues - failed headlight switches on both, wiper motor park switch failure, rear wiper, window lift ECU, flaky tail lights always (!), odd cruise control electric problem. Replaced power steering pump in both due to leaks. Rear door latch in both. Fuel pumps in both. '99 has leaky injectors. More. Still love 'em! Great forum, thanks. jv Last edited by jviss : 04-06-2008 at 03:53 PM. |

Hello from north of you in New Hampshire. Welcome to the asylum and remember to post pics of your disco's.
As for the engine oil sludge there is a time tested method a lot of us use on here. Drain oil leaving the filter on refill with ATF idle for 20-30 min drain change the filter and refill with the oil of your choice. Lastly there are a few of us getting a group of rovers together in the area in my signature area you'll find a link to the site. Feel free to stop in and sign up quite a few of the new england members are joining up. We're working on putting together a meet and greet and the more the merrier for rover story time and beers.
