Hey guys. Was looking for Discoweb and couldn't get it to come up on the net. Looks like you guys are the new replacement.
Anyway, having some mechanical issues and need new tires for Disco II so I thought I'd drop in to see what's up. I went by xtravrt on Discoweb. My rig is a black 2002 Disco II with RTE Front bumper/skid assembly, RTE Sliders, RTE 3" lift with Blistein Remote Reservoir shocks, 265/75R16 BFG MT's, Superwinch 9000, Dual Optima Batteries, 3 Lightforce XGT Driving lights, CB, Hannibal Roof Rack and Jerry Can Holders, Technitop Roof Tent, etc., etc. I'm thinking of going to 285's. Apparently they will fit but I might need to trim the front ends of the rock sliders off a bit. Might try them without since I just had the bumper, skid and sliders re-powder coated. The stock powder coating sucks the bone. I have been having problems with my rear pinion seal (I think that's what the point is where the drive shaft meets the rear diff) regularly leaks and needs to be fixed (once every year or so) so I'm not sure how much more of a problem the drive line will face with 285's since it's already having probs with 265's. Anyway, also have a leaking head and three a piston 6 code. Think antifreeze has gotten in there. I still have extended warranty to end of October so hopefully it gets sorted out. Any pointers on that issue welcome. Thanks all! Riflman |

Discoweb was down a week ago, then up for a couple days.. Now it has been down for a while. They need to fix their server.
I run 285s on my DII with no drivetrain problems, however I drive real easy on the skinny pedal. It also depends on what kind of terrain you wheel on. If you're on rocks you may need some stronger driveshafts. Your rear driveshaft issue is most likely because of the RTE 3" lift not the 265s. I would put the tires on and see IF they rub the sliders. Every rig is different.

I'm rarely on rocks. No mountains here to speak of. Mostly Red River Gumbo or MUD. Lots of swampy gunk in the prairies that gets you down to the diffs in a hurry. Any advice on how to fix the recurring drive line prob with the RTE lift?

Steve from RTE said they will only rub on full tuck. I don't full tuck very often because we're mostly flat here. Will 285's increase drive line problem or just increase the chance of broken axles and suck more power from the truck due to stock diff gearing?

Axles won't break unless you lock the diffs. You may need an extended Rear driveshaft. Call Bill at GBR and ask him. He will know what the problem is. His number is on this site. Great Basin Rovers - navbar I wheel in the same terrain and haven't had any problems. Some other guys on Dweb run 285s with stock gears ect. with no problems.

Gillam, Manitoba here, But in Winnipeg about a week a month.
I have been starting to see more Discoverys around lately. I guess the reasonable prices of them used makes more people look at them. Personally, I looked at what people in the Outback and the wilds of Africa drive. The roads up here are quite similar, and you can be as far from service as those places, so I need something reliable and rugged. The luxury of it sold it to my Wife.
