Hello to everyone! After years of being a dediicated Jeep driver I think I may be ready to get a Land Rover as well.
I currently drive an 86 Jeep CJ7 and an 07 Wrangler Unlimited(the girls) but we need something with more room and is more streetable than my 86 on 37" tires. I am currently looking for an 04 Discovery II, despite all the negative things I hear about them and horrible re-sale value. However, I do plan on keeping it for a while and I should be able to handle most of the repairs and maintanence.
I have always liked the Discos and most other Rovers. I just want something a little different this time rather than a lamea$$ Tahoe or Expedition. Hopefully I won't regret it. I've been able to get a lot of good info on here to help me find a good rig. thanks
Hey everybody, you may tell by my screen name what my background is, but to prove I am a glutton for punishment, I bought a 99 Disco II with the infamous dead block. My buddy the land rover master tech will not speak to me now, but I have a good excuse, my wife likes the truck! Not much experience with the rover yet, but I can tell plenty of tall tales about misery doing sidework on healys and jags. Customers always say they just want their cars to be reliable drivers and stop leaking fluids. Its pretty amazing, I've got the motor out and stripped and the truck still leaks on the floor. Maybe its just sweating?
Old jeep leaks too, but its 67 years old, it has a right to dribble. Oh yeah, I forgot the cardinal rule with British stuff, get it into the shop quickly and shut the door before anyone notices it, they flock like birds! Too late, I've got some guy bringing over an 03 Disco next week with check engine 0130 fault, he must have had Pep Boys or one of those deals read the code for him. I told him I'll put in the part and clear it, no guarantees though! Hey, experienced guys, whats the deal with the lower hinge on the tailgate, I have pumped about 20 gallons of PB blaster and other flavors into the thing and it still is super tight. Is that thing some kind of right of passage too?
