Default High Mileage Discos or others

Greetings,
I am not yet an owner, however I have started my search for a used Discovery or Range Rover. I have been lurking this board and others for a few days as well as talking with a couple of folks that I know.

I am interested in hearing a few stories about your rover of any sort with very high mileage, greater than 200k. Then what you had to do to get it there. Were there engine rebuilds along the way, trans rebuilds etc, or mostly just good 'ol diligent maintenance.

Pat

If you want a Rover going over 200k, prepare to put a diesel conversion in. Or buy a lot of longblocks, and an engine hoist. 140-150 tops without a major engine build. Welcome aboard. And good luck in your search.

Not true man! May just be your luck!

Well I have 200K on mine right now, no bebuilds, no major engine repairs. Simply put... MAINTAINED! I keep up on fluid changes, maint. schedueles. I have a friend with 250K on his RRC and it's still going.

As long as you keep up on maint you will be fine, just like any other car out there, take care of it and it will return the favor! I will also say that the miles put on my RRC we not easy, I 4 wheel often, pull trailers, and drive mountain passes weekly. If you can find a maint history to the rover in question. I have been pleased with the longevity of the Rover motor I have, to me they are just like the other V8's I have had. The V8 by design wears itself out, that is just how it goes! There is a member on here with 450K and he has only done 1 rebuild.

Yeah, I have heard its fairly common for the rover engines to go well over 200,000 miles as long as they are maintained.

156k no major engine repairs not even head gaskets yet....

Had what I thought was a show stopper oil leak but it turned out that the crankcase breather was clogged and causing the over pressure to push oil out past the rear main seal.

Just take care of them and they will give you many fun and fustraiting miles
