Unhappy Starter motor problem I think.

Michael here and I have a slight problem here. Changed the fuel filter on the landy today, and it wouldn't start, I had the same problem when I changed the filter 18 months ago, so had to get a tow start to get it started, it started OK, ran it for about 10 miles and then the engine cut out while I was driving it. Now the landy won't even start, there are no leaks from the fuel filter, so I think it might be the starter motor. When I try and turn over the engine there is a whining noise, and that's it, it's not as if the engine is trying to turn over. I have never taken a starter motor off before, so is it a fairly easy thing to do. Just to clarify things, is the starter motor on the passenger side of the engine below the turbo, mine is a 2.5TD, and if so, do I need to take the down pipe from the exhaust off to get access to the starter motor?

Welcome to the board....As for your problem, I would post this in the vehicle section forms.

Just got in. Want to know more about Land Rover, dad has his Safari and I got a Defender. We really want to know how to make it more modern and how to maintain a truck like this.

As of now were looking for a discount Land Rover parts for we can look and plan about what would fit in the two.

Anyway, see you in here often.

Default New to site

Hey everyone. I hope this is being posted in the right place, I'm not very web savvy. My name is Benny and I have been checking this site for a while. I am 40, live in Brooklyn NY, and work in the entertainment industry. I just wanted to say I enjoy this site and it has been a great resource in my rover-search which ended up with me buying a 1990 classic with 110k miles from a lady who really loved it who got it from a guy who really loved it. I LOVE IT! I'm about to go walk the dog just so I can take another look at it. He doesn't even have to pee.
I have no mechanical experience whatsoever, but I am determined to learn to fix it up, little by little. Anyway, just wanted to give all of you a shout and say thanks for creating this very helpful and entertaining site.
cheers!
B

Umm,

Ok im the proud owner of a 1977 SIII 88 that i bought in Uganda when i was stationed there in 2001-2003. It was my 2nd Rover, my first was a 91 3 door Disco that i also bought when i was in Uganda. I couldnt ship the Disco back so i kept the SIII.

Moved to Zimbabwe, where i had the engine rebuilt and took it on a trip to Mana Pools on the Zambizi river and drove it daily.

It now resides with me in Jacksonville, NC where i am stationed. Drive the SIII almost daily.

Looking to get another Disco, preferablly a SE7 with man tran, or just a man tran. Wont buy an auto.

Wife from Zim, 2 dogs from Zim, 2 kids in Texas from 1st marriage, 2 turtles. 3.75 years till i retire from USMC and get a real job.

Smile Hello Y'all

I would like to introduce myself. My name is John, and I just purchased a 95 Disco. While I am not going to do any hardcore wheeling in it for quite some time(due to it being my daily driver, and my wife not overly convinced I won't tear it up), I would like to take my family on some trail rides. I am new to Rovers, but not new to offroading. As a matter of fact, some of y'all that live in the Houston/SE Texas Area may have been wheeling with me before. I had a Jeep, and am the former President of the Tomball Chapter of TX4x4(now TX4WD). I spent many a weekend on the San Jacinto River(before they shut access down). But unfortunately, My Jeep was destroyed by a 17 year old.

I have been out of the 4x4 scene for about 4 years, so I am looking forward to catching up on all I have missed. Thank you for having me.

Thank you for finding us Medic! You'd going to love your D1 if you're eventually gonna get it off the road. Welcome to the family!

Default Meet and Greet

HI there guys and gals, Name's Mike and I am the proud owner of a 96 DI and 03 DII. I've had great experience with these trucks over the years and would not to switch to any this else for my 4 wheelin adventures. I was finally able to break the gorillia grip that my wife had on my DI by getting here a DII

So now my dog and I can get out there and use the DI for what is was made for........getting in and out of places that you would not find an average
4X4

Ahhh back to basics, I reside in the Orange County CA area, work in real estate (like 3/4 of everybody else in this state LOL) as an appraiser and foreclosure auctioneer. lookin forward to chating with you all in the future....

Mike

Hello, Just joined. I'm thankful for your very active forum. I'm planning on buying a 87, 88 classic range rover. I want the basic rover that is fairly easy to work on. Has anyone here ever installed a reliable diesel into a classic -- the 3.5 is a gas hog and I heard it's underpowered too. I know the 89 has a 3.9 but it's wanting premium gas and its a hog too.
