Hello LRO members...
My name is Michael and I am a Land Rover junkie with NO land rover experience. I am shopping for my 'first buy' right now, and I am a very avid DIY'er. I have worked on many cars and consider myself very experienced in the area. As I am shopping, a friend of mine comes to me with need of assistance. She has a Discovery 2 (2001) that has loss of power amongst other probs. Although she had already done this before talking with me, she went to a local firestone to help diagnose with SES lights showing (not sure whether CES or SES light was showing, and apparently not blinking). I am not sure of mileage, but am told she wants me to do her tune-up for her, and will prob have a muffler shop deal with a cat. prob she is having. I have not even test driven the vehicle, so I am really going off her ideas and thoughts and the codes that Firestone read. I do not have the traditional code numbers I am seeing being displayed on this site (ie: 0305, etc etc... is this the OBDII code reader?). It would be great if I could get my hands on a service manual for back-up. Upon searching, the only thing I have come across is the RAVE CD and perhaps some GTS online package that can be bought. Am I on the wrong track for service manual here, or is there an easier method to obtaining one? I am surprised you guys do not have a free online copy running around.... maybe there is that I have yet to find... Regarding wires, magnecor 8 mm? People seem happy with these.. With semi-small hands (but not really), maybe I can do this without replacing the intake gasket or even removal of it. Oh yes, regarding the magnecors, I heard there is not a porcelain cap on these, which has caused "cap-snap" issues... experience or ever heard of this? I am really looking for any advice LRO can give in my situation. She potentially has a MAF failure as well due to the fact that Firestone reported a 4th gear tranny code and , for some reason, "multiple codes stored in memory from mass air sensors being repeatedly unplugged/replugged"... hmmm....I guess I am looking for a bit of vehicle history and/or help to insure my work is done correctly.. you know, those tidbits of info that make it a professional job.. Thanks in advance LRO!! ![]() Michael H. Mobile, AL |

Lucky daughter. Sweet first ride. Post up your question in the DI tech forum section, and you should have the info you need within a day or two.

Howdeee,
I am a rover nut and found this site recently. I currently have a 00 disco II and have had a 96 disco I and and a 90 Range Rover SWB. Two bad decisions were to sell those off as I miss them both. My 96 was a 5 speed and that thing was sporty. My little boy still misses that Range Rover as much as I do. Never sell them, just build more sheds. firewalker in Georgia |

Hello to all of you Rovers of Land!
I do not actually own a LR as we speak, but at some point in the near future, I WILL own a Defender (90 or 110, I havent decided). I have always been in love with them. I figure it will be my next true 4 wheel drive. I currently own my second Subaru WRX, and I love them! |

Hi all, Petrus from Pretoria, South Africa. Owner of various LR models:
1. 1965 FC fitted with S3 gear and transfer box powered with 2.8 Nissan 6cyl. 2. 1965 FC chassis fitted with S3 drivetrain and HC pick-up body, also powered with 2.8 Nissan petrol engine, in the process of becoming a replica of the SADF special forces vehicle used in Angola. 3. Hybrid RR 1989/LR S3 body. Here I removed the RR body after the Scouts rolled it, shortened the chassis, rebuilt the wiring, foot controls and instrument panel onto a S3 bulkhead, and fitted a S3 SWB body. 4. Defender 110 csw 1989 3.5 V8 gas gusler. Soon to be fitted with a turbo diesel engine and auto box. Has upgraded suspention. 5. Range Rover P38 1998, a beauty!! My love-hate relationship with the green oval started in 1977 in Rhodesia. It was the only affordable 4X4 available. There you have it. |

Hi I'm Steve from Newfoundland Canada. I just purchased a new LR2 HSE and very happy with it! Its the Baltic blue with Alpaca interior.. I was in the British Royal Marines for 8 years so it has extra value being in a Land Rover again after spending alot of time on the road and cross country in the military Defenders...
If anyone can answer me one thing though which I'm not 100% satisfied with. The sunroof really only opens about half way which I find kind of annoying. I'm sure its not a fault but just thought I'd check around a see if its a normal thing. Thanks and look forward to reading more in here.. ![]() |
