Hi everyone! My name is Monty, now in Deerfield Beach, Florida but from the Washington, DC area. I just bought a 1998 LR Disco I with 59,000 miles on it and am loving it, despite the usual issues. So far I have found that the radio was dead (blown capacitor), driver's window does not work (maybe motor/regulator), the front sunroof opened but then refused to close (luckily I figured out how to manually close it, despite LR Fort Lauderdale telling me that there is no way to do it!), massive shaking about 60 mph (no one has figured that one out yet, but got new tires/balance/alignment to reduce it) and yesterday, the heater core started leaking all over the floor! Luckily that one is easy to bypass and apparently the O-rings are the usual culprit.
I am learning alot about these things fast...mileage or not, 10 years old is 10 years old, and the turn signal bulb holders are apparently quite poorly made (why are they all only single post, not double?? wouldn't that be a simple redundancy?). Anyone know of any good crash course websites or video tutorials or anything I can check out to get the basics of how to care for my new pet? Such things as "if you use any stop leak in a LR it will destroy the temperature sensors" (or whatever that advice was I saw somewhere). You know, the advice that seems normal for most cars, but you do it to a Rover and it dies, then go to the shop and learn "oh no, you aren't supposed to do that to these". |

Dear All,
My name is Jason, I am a lion researcher in the Greater Kruger Park. My research vehicle is a 1998 Defender Tdi, 3-door, and is ideal for the task at hand. I am now looking at a 1985 Land Rover ADE 236D as a possible farm vehicle. Can anyone tell me what you would expect to pay for such a vehicle in its standard form, in day-to-day running condition? Regards, Jason |

Welcome aboard man , how do you like the haynes book ? I have the brooklands workshop manual and dislike it , it does not cover enough stuff . you might try downloading the rave cd. keep the fluids topped off and changed .

Ok so I am a newbie to being a proud owner of a Landrover LR3 and I must admit I LOVE IT... I always said I didn't care much about a car as long as it is reliable and gets me from point A to point B safely, no need for all of the bells and whistles... My VW turbo diesel finally died on me and my honey bought me this new toy and I hate to admit it but I feel like it is CHristmas everyday with all the great things I uncover about my LR3... I now look forward to being a soccer mom taking my kids wherever they want to go. ALthough my son thinks it is going to be his car when he gets his license... I don't think so... ;o)

hey fellas, had my 03 discovery for about 2 years. bought it for towing and snowboarding trips. but after taking it out to hollister hills and taking on part of a black diamond trail with no modifications! holy dang these things are rediculous, a little embarassed at how much time and money i put into my jeep and the rover would walk all over it if i could fit the same tires on it and didnt care about body damage. i work on porsches and ferraris for a living, but have been into wheelin since before i had a license. any one in phoenix who wants to go wheelin let me know, always looking for some new trails.

Hello, I've got a '97 Disco SE with 128,000 miles on it. I just invested about $4 grand into it on new brakes (calipers, rotors, lines) and, new exhaust( Y pipe, O2 sensors (all four),both mufflers) and a new fan clutch. Hopefully, I'm done. I have taken it off road but just barely. It is primarily my weekend toy carrier. It gets stuck pretty easy in the wet northeast snows we get here, but I blame the tires I've got on it. I have those lame dealer recommended stock tires,so what should I expect? The diff lock is a nice feature if your not in three feet of snow on top of ice. If anyone is actually reading this, give me some feedback about tire size options, without changing anything else besides the wheels obviously. Also, this is for Mark who posted just before I did. If money is an issue you should buy the nissan and wait on the 'rover. You can always get a better one later.

i'm 38 years old from Cape Coral, Fl. and i am a firefighter for the past 5-6 yrs.
I am the proud new owner of my first 03 Discovery. I have owned Toyota's for the past 10 years and I'm SOOOOO excited to Finally be in a LR!! I'm not new to off roading but definately don't go as much as I use to years ago. I don't claim to be a mechanic, but I can get my way around a wrench. I am looking for some people to do some offroading with occasionally and am even looking to put my Hydrogen system from my Tacoma, on my Disco to help with the mileage. I look forward to hearing from you and hope I can have some helpful imput for some of you along the way. BTW - I checked the other LR forums before joining and found this one to be the best. Hence I found this site via Google. Happy Trails, and hope to talk to everyone sooner or later. Kel

Hello,
I'm 23 and just inherited my first Land Rover Discovery 2001 2.5 Td5es. what a fantastic machine it is. It has a few flaws such as the fuel line bursting off whilst we were driving in the middle of France up a hill and finding out that the radio code is nowhere to be found so when the battery went flat the other day we had to pay £15 (roughly $22) to get the code off some database the cheek! Now just waiting for the rough racks to arrive so i can start lugging round some plasterboard and doors to get my house renovated. Laura |
