Default Introduction and Question(s)

Hello Everyone.
I'm from Sunny Southern California and I have a
1994 Disco I.
I bought it in 1999 and it now has about 155,000 miles.

I would have driven twice that many miles, except for
well, what can I say? It's a Disco LOL

It has been fairly reliable. Every February, we
replace the alternator. It's just a fact, so we
keep a spare handy LOL(even the mean green
died in February LOL )

About two years ago, we took it to the dealer
for the recall on the gas tank and had them
pressure test the pump and replace the filter.

From that point on, it has literally crumbled.
On the way home the radiator hoses blew,
then of course the water pump had to go out,
on the way to get the new water pump, the
power steering pump blew. The 02 sensors
are just little ticking time bombs. The distributer,
and cap, ignition module, I can't even remember
all the parts we replace that summer.

But the car spent more time broken and waiting
for parts than running.

Finally, all the parts were replaced, and it was
running fine, just not wanting to start LOL
It decided it was a diesel, and needed to
warm the glow plugs before starting. Okay,

I can live with that LOL
But then that only worked on warm mornings,
cold mornings and evening or hot afternoons,
it was hard starting.
Took it to every "foreign" car repair shop in
town and even a few domestic repair shops.
The consensus? "It's starts just fine for us!"

Well, last February, we changed out the
alternator as prescribed by law...
and about a week later, it wouldn't start.
Period. It was getting fuel, just not spark.

For the next 8 weeks we replaced parts.

The plugs and wires, the ignition module,
(went with MSD ignition, forget the landy
OEM )the distributor and cap. The list goes on.

Monday, we got it to start!!! Ohhhh it
starts like a champ! Barely touch the
key and she fires right up!

B U T . . .

sigh, it's a disco.

Now we've popped a code 48
It hunts... it stalls...
Didn't do that before.
code 48 stepper motor right?

What the heck is a stepper motor and how do you check it???
Any suggestions???

Thanks for your help!!!
