Default Newbie part II

I'm sure i'm doing this wrong, so please forgive. I was asked for pics of my "new to me" 2000 Discovery II so I'm starting another new post. sorry.

Here they are. Bad pics, but I couldn't wait till the morning to share. It's may look gold, but it's actually silver. Bad lighting.

I have SOOOO many questions, but i'll continue to scour the boards before asking.

I will ask this, I know I can get an owners manual off of Ebay, but does anyone know if I can actually go into a store and buy one in Los Angeles?

Also I'm figuring out all the buttons on the dash, (so newbie) but what is the button behind the steering wheel( third down, under the two wiper looking buttons)?

Also ( i know, too much already) what initial tests or service should I perform before I REALLY start driving it.

Last one, what do i look up to get the rave cd thingy. How does that work.

Sorry for so many questions. I'm just excited.

You sure that's silver, that looks exactly like my white gold one... well, before I modded it..

What's the button look like? A skateboard on a road maybe? That's cruise control, push that then use the steering wheel controls to set it.. Post up a wanted on here or discoweb.org for owners manual, you'll get it cheaper then EBay probably.

Initials tests/services -- check all fluids.. if you dont have service history of it, make sure everything is up to date.. motor oil, brake fluid, coolant, tranny, transfer case, differentials, and the oh so important windshield washer fluid. Also, check the front drive shaft, the u-joint on it is known to go at around 50-70k miles and can be a very costly repair if not addressed.. so a search on here for driveshaft, i'm sure you'll find a ton of info.

RAVE cd is the LR technicians manual... has the full workshop book, and all the other books (including user manuals) in an easy to use format.. do a search for RAVE to find how you can obtain one.

Good luck with it.. and GET IT DIRTY!

Yeah, the skateboard on road also is the german autobahn symbol. Highway, I guess, since they only suggest cruise control on interstates. Kind of like in the owners manual, you have a cigar lighter, not a cigarette lighter. Goes back to the days of Winston Churchill's series one rover. That's definitely White Gold. Very popular color for the Disco's. The area behind your wheel with the buttons is called the binnacle, and therefore you have eight binnacle switches. To aid you once you have your manual. DO NOT buy an anything from the dealer. It' will cost you an arm and both legs. Hence the term stealership.

Autobahn symbol, cigar lighter, Churchill, binnacle..... learn something new everyday. I picture XM smoking a cigar waving it about with a strong english accent on that post.

Oh and welcome white gold/silver Disco dude.

Guess you never saw my ex-fiancee's avatar on other boards before the break up, huh? LMAO! It was a black and white of me driving Tonka with one hand on a 30 degree sideslope, with a La Gloria Cubana burning away in my mouth.
Crysyn's new knowledge per post: Only light cigars with proper wooden matches. lol!

P.S. Does my Boston accent count as pseudo english?

I think i'm in trouble. I just woke up and the first thing I did was come check this forum.
Thanks for the info guys. Especially about the Stealership. Kinda knew it but, when you're new, I think you feel the gravitational pull to them because you think they're experts.

Autobahn, cigars, Churchill...who knew?

I think i'm going to buy a Monte Christo today.

Anybody in California, or the LA area? I'd love to hook up with some LR owners with knowledge and get to some offroad trails.
