Thumbs down pitting on cylinder sleeve/piston 4.6 gems engine

hello from palm springs california (hot desert)
i'm new to this forum and new to land rover cars
this is my problem:
i have a 96 rr 4.0 se the engine over heated
then i purchased a 4.6 long block (rebuilt) with 1 year warranty to replace the over heated 4.0
was not able to install the 4.6 for about 6 months it sat in my garage in a cover plastic container finaly had the engine installed. few days later had valley pan gasket problems (inflating) call the person that sold me the engine
he said that the crankcase vent tube was block (plug) the oil separator had been replaced before installing the valve covers.
replaced valley pan gasket did not fix the problem had a compression test done the compression test results where low from 115 psi to 130 psi
call the person that sold me the engine again his answer was. (the piston rings have not brocken in) drove it for about 3 months 2500 miles.
freeze plugs leaking, tested the compression again 95-115 psi
returned the engine for warranty repairs.
now they are saing that the engine has been in a flood there for voiding the warranty.
because the HEADS/PISTON/SLEEVES have rust/scale/deep pitting. but my car has never been in a flood and i live in a hot dry desert 115 degrees
so after all that my question is:
HOW CAN AN ENGINE SLEEVE /PISTON /VALVES.
RUST/SCALE and PITTING happen if the engine never been in a flood

This is just a best guess. But I would think it's moisture condensation related. Internal corrosion from the engine sitting in the covered plastic box. Moisture built up, and couldn't escape because of the cover. Don't need a lot of moisture. Just a little will cause internal corrosion. If you had put a small dehumidifier in the engine box (like those used in RV's and boats for storage) this probably would not have happened. Just my .02.

Question

Hello : XtremeMarine

like I mention before I live in a hot dry desert (palm springs ca.)

if it doesn't take alot of moisture for RUST/SCALE/PITTING of the 4.6 engine. how much moisture (water)will it take for internal corrosion the sleeve and piston to look like they have been under salt water for long time the taken out and sand blasted to be clean up
beacuse that is what the pictures show (pictures send to me) by JOHN MILLER @TIDEWATER ROVERS in WILMINGTON NC.

I send back the engine for warranty repairs to JOHN MILLER@TIDEWATER ROVERS

1) intake gasket (valley pan gasket inflation) poping when the engine was turn on and when it was turn off and leaking at the rear of the engine

2) lost of compression from 115-135psi to 95-115psi with in 2500 mls on a rebuild engine

3) clicking sound on the engine like a lifter or a valve

4) leaking freeze plugs the point that i was able to beack some of the crust away with my fingers

TIDEWATER FROVERS (JOHN MILLER) answers

1)the intake gasket was poping because the cranckcase vent tube where block (plug)
(cranckcase ventilation only has two vent tubes one on each valve cover. one has a new baffle the other don't)

2) on the compression, he had done 3 test and was able to get over 200psi there for the compression was not a problem.
..............with the RUST/SCALE and HEAVY PITTING of the CYLINDER SLEEVE/PISTON and HEADS .................. how can this be possible.......

3) on the clicking sound JOHN MILLER@TIDEWATER ROVERS believe the oil pump (oil pump gear set)needed to be replaced because it was not providing enough oil pressure to the engine.
(the oil gear set and the timing chain where replaced with new ones)
he request to show proof of evidence.
(i fax him the invoice from british pacific land rover parts together with compression test print out. from 2 different places one from a new car dealer and other one from a local repair shop)

4)on the freeze plugs JOHN MILLER said that all engines leak at the freeze plugs and eventually the seal them selfs and do to the amounth of antyfreeze crust over the plugs they have seal them selfs there for it was no longer a problem. any repairs done to the engine will not be under warranty.

last night I taken the 4.0 engine out of the same type of plastic container like the 4.6 engine came with from TIDEWATER ROVERS for RUST/SCALE and PITTING inspection
after been in my garage for 6 months but there is no trace of RUST/SCALE or PITTING
on any part of the 4.0 engine
