Thumbs up Proud Owner (I Think) of 1999 RR 4.6 Plus..... I Have Questions Already?

So I have just recently purchase a new (to me) 1999 RR 4.6 HSE for a grand total of $4k. It looks like it is pretty much new, never taken off-road (so they say and it look like) and has about 99K on it.

The bad: The transfer case is out of it.
The bad: The wife is appalled.

The Question:

How difficult is it to a put a new transfer case chain in it for a modestly skilled chap these days?

My other option of course is to purchase a new transfer case (not really)

Or get a (slightly) used transfer case. I found one off a 2002 Discovery with the 4.6 engine. Will that work? It only has 30k on it.

If anyone could let me know I would certainly appreciate it seeing as how I will be going one way or the other very soon and I would like to hear a bit of input from anyone with the knowledge or experience.

Soon I hope that to have this beast on the road, then I can talk about more interesting things......like winches and tractor beams.

Cheers and thanks!

Nate

Can't offer much help here, but you may want to double-check the specs on the '02 Disco... it's my understanding that the 4.6 wasn't introduced to the Disco until '03.

Good luck!

Well, I ordered a transfer case from a recycler ( In my day we called em' junkyards) in Oklahoma by the name of Oklahoma European Auto Recycling LLC. He originally had a transfer case with about 40k on it and I was itchin to get my hands on that one but while he was checking the availability on it.....it was sold. So i ordered on with (apx.) 60K on a P38 that was a victim of a rollover accident. He offered that on up for $700. After spending a few days researching prices for this particular item I thought that sounded reasonable. The warranty was a 90 day exchange.

The Transfer case showed up yesterday, I took it out of the box and checked the model numbers with mine and everything looked kosher. The only difference is that the serial number on the just ordered on is newer by about 4 or 500 digits. Which makes sense since this one is off a 02 whereas mine is a 99. I put the e-brake housing group on the transfer case and I am currently trying to figure out how to rig up a contraption for my floor jack to hold the transfer case without spending money on a transmission attachment for the jack.

While I had the RR in the garage I went underneath and I noticed a few items that I had a few questions about, but my language skills will be limited to try to explain what I'm looking at so I'll just snatch some pictures and show them to you guys to have us on the same page.

One question I do have now is if anyone knows what the torque settings need to be for the bolts on the transfer to the transmission case?

I'll take a few pics and update y'all later!
