Default Tick...tick...pause...tick...tickish...

I have 2002 disco II with 54k...she has the tick (passenger side.) My mechanic did the following: flushed system, replaced lifters, replaced rocker arm(?) pulled out engine (twice) to bore out two cylinders and replace two pistons...plus whatever else...in the end, it came down to the "slipped sleeve you need a new engine diagnosis." He couldn't remove the tick so only charged me a mere $800 for the machinist fee. I've read some of Disco Mike and Steph's posts suggesting exaust gaskets and such...my question is...(drum roll) the "tick-tick" comes and goes, it's not constant. If I hit the accelerater the sound disappears. Then it may start again "tick-tick-pause-pause-tickish-tick-pause." She doesn't run hot or lose any power. And I certainly won't replace this 54k engine unless it blows up!

This is my first post. I hope I did it correctly
