Well, I've got myself a bit of a quandry. Saturday was my 35th birthday, and I spent it hanging around a bunch of my marine business associates and contacts. Nothing like hanging out at a boatyard, drinking rum, and swapping tales. lol!
Well; one of the guys finds out that I am a Roverholic, and starts giggling, and tells me to follow him to the other end of the boatyard. Seems this good natured old boy has 27 thousand acres in the Bahamas, and just bought himself some trucks to use on the property. We turn the corner and standing in front of me are two 109's. Subject A) An 80 or 81 SIII, 5 door, RHD, in Marine blue, with a tropical roof. Subject B) A late 70's SIII, 3 door, RHD, hardtop with no windows, most likely ex-MOD. He asks me if I can help him find parts, and long story short, over half of his list I either had in my shed, or my PODS container. I tell him, that since it's nice to have contacts, everything I have he needs, is his free of charge, and I'll do my best to help him procure what else he needs. He gets a big smile, says that if that's how I'm going to be, let him return the favor, and the green one's mine for a birthday present. Now, I'm not one to turn down a free landy, so here's my quandry: Do I keep it and have another Series to play with, or do I part it, and use the funding to keep moving forward on my SIIa 88 project? P.S. The kicker, he's going to pick up 5 or 6 more, and after he's kept the ones he wants (he bought them as a bulk deal) I'm welcome to the remainders. He's my new best friend, lol! ![]()

If it's a good solid truck it would be a shame to part it out I would sell it whole at that point so that another rover nut can bring her back to her former glory.
Or you could pay it forward and pass it on to the less fortunate non series owners like myself so we to could experience the joy that is a Series Rover lol ![]() Or sell it to me really really cheap lol....

Well; I haven't delved into it too far. But the rear crossmember is a complete loss. Haven't checked the frame. And the motor is in the bed. But all of the interior is B+ at worst, complete seats, dash, etc. All glass is good. Wiring is solid and complete. So depending on how many more he gives me; Ive got Army, then Anti in line for the hand me down. I'm hoping one of the ones coming is a complete loss SIII 109 so that I can get a Salisbury for Jc, for his project. I'll get some photos posted up this week.

Wait till I see the others, in the next two weeks. If this one is a nogo for me, or I find another one in better shape, you can have this one.
I just spent my lunch break crawling under this one. The chassis is pretty much toast. But then again, Army, you are close enough to drive to RN, and not have to pay shipping for a chassis. As though the exterior is olive drab, she's not an ex-MOD, as the entire interior is in a dark blue. Looks to be one or two shades darker than marine blue. The motor is in the back, but the trans/t-case are in. Rest of truck is rolling and complete. The hardtop has no side windows, and the rear swing open door, is a different shade, so not original. Still worth as a freebie though, lol. Can't wait to see the rest. But for now, this one will probably be in my driveway tomorrow or wednesday. I dropped the car hauler off at lunch, and they're loading her up today.

I wonder how hard it would be to extend the rrc frame under the parts truck for a 109 it's only 9 inches right .........

Now your talking man!!! I'd consider doing it with a LWB chassis instead though. Still might have to shift the axle back a bit though. Ive been stewing on that one myself.
BTW my hybrid is running and the body is almost done. Im hoping to have it on the road Thur/Fri for the FLRC rally. Gordo

I cant see parting something like that out. they aren't rare. Most of the parts are available new for less hassle than reusing. Sell it outright and it would likely get similar money for less work if you don't want it.
Once you start parting out, you have a piece of junk rather than a project car. what you don't part out becomes scrap.. Which is a hassle and a shame for a classic rover. Now if its already scrap.. well.. what ya gunna do. take the parts and recycle the rest. Those 109s seem to be worth a bit more than my 88. Swap your bad parts onto it and sell it as a whole... "s what I'd do. But I know I'll be moving in a few years and not bringing sheds full of parts, and although I am a junk collector at heart. I don't like to be that guy with all the junk. But I'm not you... just sayin... a junk car is a car.. a parted out hulk is trash waiting for a ticket. |

I would to as it is less of a change and could probably be worked out without a frame chop, but I already have a complete 90 RRC Chassis and drivetrain.

Army, PM me, and we'll talk details. Got the truck at my house this morning, and since more are coming in a few weeks, I did give you first dibs. If it's something you're seriously interested in, let's talk.

At lunch, I'll be working out a deal for the marine blue one. And only two weeks, before I go to look at the rest, so PM reply sent.
Anti; you still need a firewood hauler? JC; You still looking for a Salisbury.

Pics taken last night. On their way today. Also, this morning, I'll find out if He accepts my offer on the running marine blue 5 door. Heard it run last night. Only needs a clutch master cylinder, and a new steering box.
Still waiting to see if Jc still wants a salisbury though. Little brother, get on line!
