Hello everyone i purchased a 1960 series II SW with safari top about four months ago. My dad and i have stripped it apart and since the frame had no rust on it we had it media blasted and then powder coated.
![]() ![]() I also have all the suspension powder coated today and it looks great. ![]() ![]() i hope yall enjoy this. feel free to give any advise and ask any questions. I am new to land rovers if you didn't know but i have wanted one for a few years and i think i found a nice one. |

Sure enough off to a spiffy start....... Hard to say what recommendations to make, for everybody has there own interpretation a frame off restro in what there looking for. There's to consider how far taking it down the end use, cost, time, ect, ect,,,,, Though in the end its ya'lls to enjoy and do as see fit....
"Oh, but please" Don't paint the cappings !!!! It's handy enough to take pic's, but found that a 6 x 9 steno pad near indispensable in scratching down notes, drawing crude pictures/diagrams, needed parts to order and such. I've filled up 3 in doing a 109sw and they have been much help in recalling what goes where, wire routing, " which way round this thing-of-a-trick goes," how many shims were between tub/chassis and the like. McMaster Carr has been a good source for regular fixings 1/4-28, 5/16-28, solid and blind rivets, screws and so forth. Though at a glance of the pic's ..... Appears that ya'll have a good handle on the task., Best of luck and enjoy Dave |

Cappings are the galvanized trim pieces that go around edge of tub, the top of the hinged door shells, and at roof line drip cap. Some like to remove and regalvanize to keep the Series period correct. That is time consuming (drill out all rivets and replace rivets to reinstall), requires some expense to galvanize but looks good. We chose to paint ours due to time constraints and we like the Defender painted look (caps on Defenders are not galvanized, but painted with the body). Our truck is certainly not period correct, but we think it looks better than when we got it! It has black rims (POR-15'd and topcoated black) and slightly larger tires, so the capping paint was sort of a non-issue for us, plus provided an extra layer of protection from rust. We also painted our windshield frame like the Defender. You will have to decide what to do when the time comes.
Good luck on your build. Best regards, Greg |
