A friend just got this rig. It's been sitting, as shown in the photo, for years. He cant find a Vin #. Anywhere. We've looked in all the right places. Any suggestions? And, what if there isn't one? Do we find a parts rig and buy the title off some one willing to sell it? Any takers? Also, who is the best for parts and restoration on this project? Thanks so much.
hey long shot on the missing vin thing, but see if you can get a cop to run the plates on that series. Even if the plates are really old, the system might still be able to pull up the info (which should include the vin) From their, you could talk to the DMV about getting a new title for it.

69's didn't have VIN's. They just has SN, or "Chassis Numbers".
If the plate on the bulkhead above the gearbox is missing, there's a very slight chance you might still find the number on the front frame horn. But I doubt it from the looks.

Four wheel drive allows you to get stuck
in places even more inaccessible.
My late IIA of a similar vintage has the serial in 3 places.
1. Stamped into the front chassis horn.
2. Vin plate that is on the bulkhead in the parcel shelf.
3. A small plate on the door jamb on the driver's side.
There looks to be very little worth keeping on it. The frame and bulkhead are shot.
I know she is in rough shape. He's got plans for it tho. Not a typical restoration. He's going to do what another friend did, and bebuild it with Toyota parts. He's got parts, patience, and a huge shop. So it's kind of "just for fun". Thanks for all the info.

Looks like the previous owner was into Landies. Sill bar missing, marine blue seat box. I can't see enough bad in the bulhead to scare me off yet. That truck needs at minimum a rear xmember, maybe a couple outriggers, and at worst a frame, but the body panels are straight, there's no ragged edge rot on the rear of the tub and it has a Koenig winch. That truck is just begging for a rebuild, and not with any Toy stuff either.I wish I could find more like that one.
I just met a guy up here who is selling a '69 IIA. He's asking $3k but would most likely take $2k. Says it needs new brake lines & clutch work but he still drives it on some woods roads up near Sebago.
