The wife and I were visiting my Mother in law this weekend and I was asked if I could try to get "Thelma" started. She is a 1961 IIa model 109. It has not been run in three years. I took out the book from under the seat and followed the priming instructions. the engine turns over but won't start. I got 5 gals. of fresh gas, added lead charged the battery and still no go. I took off the air cleaner hose and poured some fuel in and it started right up but won,t run. The sediment bowl is full but nothing comes up to the carb.
Where can one purchase a fuel pump and fuel filter. I am not too worried about the filter as I can always put in an in-line but the wife says the last time it happened they could not find a fuel pump so the old one was rebuilt by their mechanic. Thanks for the help Tom |

If it has been sitting for three years, I doubt it is the fuel pump... easy enough to check tho, pull the fuel line off the carb, on the underside od the fuel pump there is a lever, give it several good pumps (might need a pile as the fuel might be back in the tank....) if fuel comes out, then it is not the pump..... I would guess that the fuel has gelled in the carb and the carb needs a good cleaning....
Also, where abouts are you,as this will affect which parts supplier will be the best for you (ie, do not want to give you a NA one if you are in the UK..... ) ?

Before you buy a new pump, I would drain the old gas out of the tank and fuel pump... if it has been sitting for three years I still believe it will be jelled fuel, unless of course it was put on blocks because it would not run due to gas.... The end of the pickup tube for the fuel might be sitting in a pile of jel, or the sediment bowl might be full of it as well....
If you want to try the new pump, there is Atlantic British (http://www.roverparts.com/) or Rovers North (http://www.roversnorth.com/store/) both would have a fuel pump in stock. As for the inline filter, go to you local tractor supply store and get an inline on for a tractor. I prefer the clear ones so you can see fuel (put do not panic if the ball does not get totaly full with fuel...) place it right at the carb...
