Default Anybody running bio diesel in a 2.25L?

I've been thinking about running some B99 Bio diesel through my 2.25.
Can you run this fuel without issues? The research I've done does not turn up any info on bio in a 2.25; only later model diesels 200/300tdi. The solvent properties of B99 could prove an issue with the pump, lines or injectors...I'm not sure. Or it could actually help clean out the system, not sure.

My Mercedes 300TD loves the stuff...runs cleaner and has no issues.
Seems like that old 2.25 lump would run on about anything, but it's not worth wasting my diesel pump to find out.

Durring the fuel crunch of the seventys my dad ran a 50/50 mix of diesel and used cooking oil. From what I understand it works but it can gum up the injector pump if it is to cold.

I've also been running B99 in my '87 300TD wagon (6 cyl turbo) and recently went for my biannual emmissions test. The guy told me it was the cleanest running diesel he had tested in months. He was shocked when he took the odo reading for the computer, 257K

I hear ya...my 1985 300TD (5 cyl. turbo) has 317,000 miles and runs cleaner and smoother than any other MB diesel I've seen (or smelled). A couple of friends run the 240D sedans and have not had such luck; though they do not seem to be on the same maintenance schedule my vehicels are on..."oh, you have to replace the fuel fileters? Where are they" (Yikes!!) Though...my MB has a heating system for the fuel in cold weather (same tank system that heats the fuel lines and fuel before the pump and also before the injectors). This also makes it compliant for straight waste veggie oil, though it is becoming harder and harder to get free waste oil.

Well enough Benz talk back to Rovers...

Maybe I'll try a 50/50 mix of B99 and diesel and see how it goes...
I have an extra pump in my shop if the bio fuel kills the pump.
Without a heating system on my 109" I will try this before it gets too cold.
I've seen B99 turn to gel at a mere 40°F

I can't be the only guy wanting to run bio fuel in a series 2.25, am I?
Or, are all you guys laughing since I must be the only fool to still be running a 2.25 lump in a 109"?

You are not the only one with a 2.25 Ltr in a 109. I have one. It has a little help though in that I have a turbo set up on it.

Really? Tell me more!

I was looking into that last summer and was repeatedly told that the 2.25 would not withstand a turbo for any legnth of time. Suppliers both domestic and in the UK would not sell me a turbo (with a warranty) for that application since they said it would tear apart the motor in short time. I took this 'expert advice' at face value and dropped the idea...

What turbo did you use? Got pics? How long have you been running it?

I was looking into the 2.5L turbo unit since the manifold is so similar I thought it would be a rather simple mod.

I'm all ears...thanks!

The turbo set up that I am running is one that my dad built. It helps alot in the speed department the only draw back is that it gets very HOT which thins the oil and can cause the engine to sieze. But that can be prevented with an oil cooler. What is your e-mail adress? Mine is roverhud@yahoo.com . I will send you pictures of what I have along with pics of the spare unit. From what I can tell it is part of a kit that Atlantic British used to advertise. If you are interested I could sell it to you.

I've run b99 in my 2.25 (also in a 109) for about a year with no problems. Cold snap last December caused enough gelling to plug the filters, but didn't bother the injectors at all; I just swapped in a some fresh filters and waited for things to thaw out a bit. This winter I'll switch to petro a little earlier...

150 miles so far on a 50/50 blend of diesel & B99 and all is good.
The exhaust also has a much nicer aroma as I sit in traffic or idle the trails.
So far so good...
