The felt and rubber washer will crush down every thin, this is normal.
It is the same piece used on the axles shafts, buy a few extras you will use them.
Be aware that the 4 hole plate that pinches you E-brake backing plate to the t-case has a little notch bent in it, this goes down to drain any oil that gets past the output shaft seal. This is to keep the oil from getting to yur e-brake shoes.

Hole in the cover? The cover in on top of the t-case in front of the e-brake packing plate should not have any breather holes I believe?
Now the cover over the trans output shaft does.
I drilled the holes in my overdrive cover, the cover between the OD and the trans as well as the round cover for by the shifter forks. It can be knocked out drilled, tapped and staked back in if you have the shifter rod cover off.
Tapped the holes to a 1/8" NPT and ran extended vent lines with good quality 1/4" plastic* tubing using compression fittings (*nylon IIRC the cheap hose used for water lines to ice makers will melt from the heat of the overdrive) up to the top of the bulkhead in the engine compartment.

Put the t-case in first before you install the overdrive.
It can be put in as an assembly but it is much easier to do afterwards.
There is every little room between the engine and the rear cross member.
Don't ask me how I know.

BTW make sure your keyed nut on the trans output gear it tight!
I think it is suppose to be 80 or 100 flbs?

Steve

thanks.
I got similar advise in a PM irt removing the overdrive.

Yea.. I actually got the transmission stuck in there. I unbolted the overdrive to get more room and there wasn't enough room to remove it once the transmission was unbolted. took some tilting to get it out.. thought i'd destroy the pressure plate...
