Does bellhousing to transmission need a silicone gasket sealant or is it metal to metal?
Torque amount for the same? Torque amount for clutch plate to flywheel? |

Torque values should be in the green bible (aka workshop manual)....
The joint between the bellhousing should be a dry fit (as long as you are not talking about the transmision half of bellhousing to the transmision case, then there is a paper gasket and sealant used. BUT this would only be the case if you dismantled the transmission....) Will try and find the green bible later tonight, should be in the truck somewhere.... As well when you are installing the flywheel, make sure the clutch plate is exactly centered (I use a big socket that fits inside where the tranny shaft will be in the splines) or else you will never get the transmission attached... if it does not go, double check the clutch plate has not gotten bumped out of alignment, then try again, and try again... but do not use too much force, if it is not lined up then it will not go, and no prybar will help... (sometimes I get lucky and it goes first time, sometimes it is a day's process..)

Well it was not all day, but it was 5 hours, mostly because we tried to slide engine into loosely mounted transmission (we slid the engine out away from and left the transmission when we disassembled}. Ultimately, mounted engine and slid the transmission into the engine. Alignment using a hoist and slings on the transmission is not easy, but got it and man, does that give a sense of accomplishment!!!! Thanks,
Greg |
