Castrol GTLMA - Land Rovers Only

I know this is the only stuff to use on the old rovers but here is my question. I know I can order it through AB, but a little harder to find at auto stores

. I used to buy it at napa but don't have any close any more so I will be checking there soon. I finally came across one that carried it (pepboys) but it has switched to a synthetic. Looking at the bottle it says its been reformulated so I am not sure if this is all they offer now? If so is the synthetic fine for the rubber in the system, or should I just order the older stuff from AB

I think it depends on how old the seals are in your truck. When I first got my Series, I changed the fluid, not having about using Castrol, and within weeks, the fluid was black. Within 6 months I had to replace the brake and clutch masters and slave seals. The newer Rovers(dweb) and probably newer Series seals are probably a different compound, and less likely to be affected by different fluids.

's funny .. half the threads say its the low moisture content thats important.. half say its the seals.. I'm running no land rover brand parts in my brakes.. or clutch.

I've never run into brake seals that have been damaged by anything other than age.. Most last well beyond their recommended life.

THe manual talks about changing the hydro fluids for moisture contamination.. not for seal problems. But.. I've seen a few self leveling suspensions SUPPOSEDLY failed for wrong fluids. But they were also rather old.

Its like the GL5 issue.. It may corrode yellow metals and reduce standard transmission life by up to 40%.. quite possibly limiting them to only several hundred thousand miles... rover transmissions excepted. Then again.. the new ones claim to be less corrosive.

Thanks for the replies. The seals are newer as I rebuilt the master, slave, and wheel cylinders a few years back. I have also used other brake fluids in the past without any problems.
